I don't know the numbers, stats, or what have you, but it just seems like more and more girls in high school are having babies. More Black and Hispanic than anything. I think its sad to see. I'm not some bible thumper saying you should wait til marriage. Its seems that people think its cool and should be celebrated. I was once talking to a schoolmate, she told me that she(16) let her boyfriend(24) ejaculate inside of her on purpose, so she could ''see what it feels like''. I have another friend who is 19 and has two children. I love my goddaughter but my best friend had her when she was barely 18. I just don't know what to think. My mother had me when she was 16 but thank God for my grandmother for taking me away(saving) from her. My own sister got pregnant at 15 but she got an abortion. My mother simply said that she wouldn't help take care of the child and where they live the school pays for abotions so my sister jumped for it. Sometimes I feel like I'm weird for being 18, Black and childless. I'm sure most mothers love their kids, but who want to be a mother before they finish high school. What are y'all thoughts about it?

unfortunately, around here having babies is a trendy thing to do. if one girl does it, then her friend has to do it. it seems like babies are seen as an accessory until they get around age 6-7, then the parent realizes that there's more work involved than shopping at baby gap and looking cute.

my cousin got pregnant at 16, then her twin sister did the same thing a few weeks later so they could have their babies around the same time. then my other cousin [who's best friends with the twins] got pregnant at 19. that whole circle of girls just had babies to be like everyone else in the group. that's just sad to me...

don't feel weird about being young and not having children. there actually are a lot of young people who just aren't ready to have kids, so they don't [like me]. you need more time to be yourself and do what you want in life. children are a HUGE responsibility, and they take up time and money that many teenagers don't have. when you decide to become a parent, you need to be in a position where you're always willing to put your child before anything else in life. until then, just try to be happy and enjoy your youth. 3nodding

It has become the 'in' thing to be a slut. My younger cousin is on that same path.

It's a sad trend in our Black Community.

Its sad that the girls get pregnant yes, but the baby should still be born or parents to force daughters to get abortions.

i don't think your parents can 'force' you to get an abortion, but they could certainly talk you into it. i know you can be forced into giving up your children, or have them taken away from you. i think i'd be too afraid not to get an abortion...

if the parents don't approve of their young daughters becoming parents, i've seen more than a few parents "cut off their funding"...

It's just plain dissapointing. All I can do is shake my head. It's so frustrating that these little sluts are doing this, and on purpose. What has happened to our people?

All I need is a needle, thread, and a crocheteing needle and I'll be in business twisted .

I was just thinking about this. Alot of people will accuse me of being judgemental but this is one of the main problems with our people and it is being ignored so we won't "offend" people.

Why do black kids perform worse than whites? Why do less black kids go to college and eventually make less money? Of course we all know money = power. The rate of teen mothers and illegitimate births is related with all of those things. We are set at a dissadvantage as a whole from the start. I know that's not the only thing wrong but it aint' helpin folks.

And don't feel bad OP, my older sister is childless and she's 36 years old. Me and my twin sister (apiyo from the previous post) are alot younger than her so you can guess it was always assumed she's our mom. rolleyes

My step sister got pregnant before she graduated from high school, and didn't tell my father and her mother until the summer after she graduated. She should be giving birth around Christmas, when shes 18 years and 4 months old. And she was suppost to be the smart one in the family. neutral
