Kivalik bounded along playfully, between tents, and through the legs of humans, toward the source of that delightful scent. The young pup didn't know what exactly the smell was, but it sure was nice when it passed his nostrils. His ears were perked, and his tail was wagging as he moved along, and then stopped as he spotted it. A huge chunk of fresh meat, resting just a few inches over some hot coals. Of course, being a pup, he was curious about this meat, just sitting there out in the open, and wanted it for himself, as well.
He wagged his tail again, then laid his ears back, and stalked around the side of the tent the little fire pit was sitting before. He watched carefully, sniffing about the edges of the tent-material, trying to figure out how many humans were inside, and if he could get away with stealing the meat. But, Kivalik also did not want to be punished, if caught. As the little brown-furred pup peered around the edge of the tent again, at that big, juicy piece of meat, he tripped, knocking over what he thought was a fallen tree, though it was standing on two other trees, and had tools hanging from it, of course, sending the bone and rock-made tools clanking to the ground.
The pup yelped and then ran around the front of the tent, away from the tools, cowering, tail between his legs and ears back, and his attempt at stealing the meat was foiled as the big male human came from the tent, to investigate the sounds.

Nootau too stared at that hunk of meat but it was because his human had told him to. Well, more specifically he had commanded Nootau's adopted mother Posala to who then passed the job onto Nootau claiming she didn't "have the nerves" to perform the job that morning. But not even a pup can do such a job avidedly. Pups were meant to be playing around, to be learning the ways of life. Not watching a hunk of meat cook over a fire while one's master was discussing his payment with a neighbor in the tent.
Speaking of tools, Nootau's ears perked up at the sound of them clanging onto the ground. His master came out of the tent and scowled at him. Obviously he thought this was Nootau's doing. Posala had a habit of not telling master she was making Nootau do the work. His eyes went back to where noise came from and noticed what looked like stains on the tent. Well, since the master was out, he was off duty, right? So Nootau carefully crept forward towards the stains until one blinked. Eyes? Slowly, he realized it was a puppy, rather like himself.
"Hello?" he tried.

The brown puppy whimpered once more, and then tried to back away, not realizing that he was only backing into the tent wall. He cried out just once, and then glanced about, frightened. "I'm sorry, is this your tent?" He said quietly, tail still between his legs, and ears still flat against his skull. "I...I didn't mean to knock those tools over, I hope your master doesn't get mad at you..." Kivalik added, taking in the slightly bigger, red pup with his bright, icy eyes.
Despite the fact that he was scared, meeting the other pups that lived in the settlement with him was still an excitement, and Kivalik allowed his pale-marked, sandy tail wag happily, ears perking up, only slightly. As his tail swayed from side to side, the pup panted slightly, relaxing a little from his recent fright. "Maybe we should take off...I don't wanna get hit..." He said, again rather quietly, trailing off as he began slinking off toward the trees, brow furled, as he looked toward the other puppy.

He furrowed his brow just a bit. Master never hit anyone ....okay, yes he did. But Nootau was sure this wasn't one of those occasions. The meat was still there, yes? He was about to tell the other puppy so when the pup began making his way towards the trees. Nootau looked over his shoulder at his master who was muttering to himself and poking the fire with a stick. Then he looked back at the puppy. Sure why not?
Nootau followed after the other. "Try not to look so sad, yes? You may have thought about things but you did not do anything serious." Nootau was certainly thinking about this positively. His master might see this as him chasing the culprit away and later catch a fish for Nootau. And he sure did love fish. He nipped playfully at the other puppy's heel. Not on the heel but right by it, trying to put some energy back into the pup who looked like he just wished to mope.

Kivalik gave a little giggle and then leapt away from the other pup. "Okay..." He trailed off briefly, and wagged his tail, crouching for a moment in a very playful position. "Well...I didn't really mean any harm. That meat did look good, but I prolly wouldn't have have the guts to steal it, anyway." The puppy paused and looked down at his overly large paws for a moment.
"Maybe we can find something out in the woods to eat...if you wanna go look?" He suggested, a bright, toothy grin appearing across his features. The sandy-furred pup wagged his tail even harder, and then glanced at the trees again for a moment, before turning to look at the red and white pup's master, poking at the fire with a stick. He couldn't help his mouth watering at the sight of the big chunk of meat roasting slowly over the hot coals.
"Or we can just play...I bet master has some scraps for me back at my tent for later, anyways." Kivalik rolled his shoulders in a small shrug, then leapt up in the air again and trotted around the other pup in a quick circle, tail wagging cheerily.
