I hear you calling and it's needles and pins I want to hurt you just to hear you screaming my name
My dad said something that made me so sad just now. I know it's not his fault or anything, it's just the idea, you know?
But yeah, I got this baby kitten a few months ago, and he just does NOT get along with my dad's cat, Lucky.
Well, just now we heard some cats screeching outside. I ran out there and only saw my kitten, so I brought him in, and my dad came by to see who it was fighting. I explained I only saw my kitten.
And my dad said: "He (my kitten) is chasing my Lucky cat away."
O_o
I didn't rescue that cat in order to chase away my dad's cat... but you know... now that the kitten is in the house Lucky won't come in as often, and it kinda seems like he's right.
I love Lucky too, but this kitten is my baby. He was the only thing that really comforted me when I found out about my friend's death. But at the same time, knowing how much I love my kitten, how heart-breaking it must be for dad to loose his baby!
It's just a lose-lose situation for him. God, I feel awful.

Maybe one of your friends can take in your kitten? That way you'll still get to see him.

I'd die. I really, really love that cat. >.< It's selfish, I know, but I don't have too many friends around here any more. Most of them moved on after high school, me and shani are really the only ones who stayed in town. shani can't take in another cat... and I'd be so lonely...

If it's any consolation... it will get better. smile We've had a dog for about eight years, Bailey, and until now, he was our only dog. Well, my mother recently got a puppy, Misha. Misha would try to play with Bailey, who used to growl and snap at her if she so much as looked at him. It took around six or seven months, but Bailey is finally starting to warm up to her. He was just jealous of her, that's all.
If both your cats are male, there is probably domination issues going on. Try restricting your kitten a little more. Like, put your kitten in the bedroom and coax Lucky inside. Give Lucky the run of the house for a few hours before you let your kitten back out. Pay attention to Lucky, too, and let him know you still love him.
Your kitten is still in the warrior stage, it sounds like. Part of the problem might just be restlessness, especially if Lucky is an older and lazier cat. Just give it time and make sure you scold them both (SCOLD, mind you, not "aww, who's my bad little baby?") whenever you find them fighting. In time, they'll learn fighting is a big no-no.

Id have to concur with Chibi. Cats get jealous and territorial. (random cat fights in the yard..we have those too. All our cats lounge in the front yard and chase away strays on sheer principal) Separation with gradual introductions over time are usually good. They may never like each other..but they can learn to tolerate each other's presence.
Our agoraphobic cat hated our three other cats, but we placed all the food in "her room" and let the others wander in while Babe was sleeping/hiding. There was some hissing and growling..but very few actual fights. They still dont get along well..but they do tolerate each other and hissing and/or stare-downs now only happen when one manages to startle another.

Well, Lucky's a girl, just a few years older then my baby. We've been trying to keep them seperate as much as possible, but it's really hard sometimes. >.< I guess I just have to work harder at it. I keep him in my room at night and let Lucky roam free until morning, when she goes out anyways.
The baby cat has learned that Lucky is the dominant cat, and whenever he sees Lucky he just lies down right away. But when Lucky leaves he likes to follow her. >.< Lucky of course doesn't like that, and Lucky will just let him have it.
I don't think Lucky will leave because of the kitten... I just think my dad's comment hurt my feelings a little because it's really no big secret he hates my kitten. And that cat is like my child. But, I'm a little calmer now and I can deal with that. I have to keep the kitten away from him too. O:

That's very similar to Babe and Tigger's relationship. When he was a kitten she dominated him..now they're the same size but he'll still submit to her. They lay in all the same places and he'll follow her around. Funnily enough Im looking at them both splayed next to my computer chair just a few feet from each other.
Your dad sounds like he needs to bond a bit with the new kitten. He may not want a new kitty..but its part of the household and he should learn to get along too. Parents are odd sometimes.
I say give them all space and time. Pushing them to get along will likely only rub em the wrong way. Patience young padawan.

They'll bond in time.
I've introduced all sorts of new crittles to my older babies, and at first they wanted nothing to do with them. But now they play and cuddle.
Last summer, I introduced 3 baby kittens to three dogs and two cats. Then a week later, another cat. xD

Grin Evilly says: I think it's just a fight over territory and dominance.
Don't worry. I'll bet they'll settle soon and be buddies. <33
