I AM SO PISSED OFF RIGHT NOW.

So I've been trying to grow an African Violet since July. It hasn't been easy, because African Violets are the hardest plants to grow. They are REALLY stubborn.

But I've been steadily coaxing mine into growing, but it's been a long process.

Longer than it has to be too, because EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY TIME I GET ANYWHERE near having it be a healthy plant with large leaves, SOMETHING happens, and my mom will knock it off the windowsill or break a couple of the leaves off of it or something like that.

IT BUGS THE HECK OUT OF ME.

OMG. It's like.... every time I make progress with it, something happens that pushes me back. It's so discouraging. I put so much time and energy into that plant, and now it's probably not even going to survive.

It's really loose in the soil, and it only has two big leaves now instead of five, and it's all pathetic looking and it makes me so upset. I just want something that I can put alot of effort into, and everytime I get anywhere, it's like some spirit doesn't want me to succeed.

It looks like it's going die. I told my parents that and you know what they said? "If it dies oh well. It's just a plant. I'll buy you another one. They aren't very expensive."

HOLY FRICKING COW. THAT PISSES ME OFF EVEN MORE!

It's not just a PLANT. It's something that I've put alot of effort into and a lot of time, and a lot of care. I can't just throw it out and start over. It's not just "Oh well." It's something that I've spent three months caring for, and you're just saying "Well at least you'll be good at the next one."

I have brought this plant back from almost being dead. And now, they're saying "Well we can replace it."

No you ******** can't. You can just go and say you're sorry and complain about the mess it made on your carpet. WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR CARPET? Vacuum it up. It's easy to fix. It's not like I can glue my plant back together.

I guess they take a nonchalant attitude about this because they don't grow plants. No one in my family really has a green thumb. My mom is lousy at taking care of plants and therefore has about four that are resilient and you only have to water them once in awhile. Yes, one's a cactus. The other one is ivy, and then we have two other plants that can basically take care of themselves.

So the care and time it takes to grow an African Violet means nothing to them. They just don't care and they just don't get it.

But if this was my brother and one of his drawings, they'd understand. They know the work and effort that goes into making a drawing. Or a computer program for my dad. Or something for my little brother.

But because it's plants, they don't care, don't get it, and really have no idea how much work it is to take care of one.

In short, I'm pissed.

Yeesh...

Well, many people just can't seem to get it though their heads that some "things" are important because they're important to someone else...

Hmmm... and it might be a good idea to place the plant somewhere where your mom won't likely knock it over... or something... I know, you've got to find a nice sunny windowsill somewhere... but I'm sure there's somewhere you can put it where it can grow without too many interruptions... and since you've managed to bring it back from almost dead, it sounds like once you've got it somewhere where it won't be "messed with" then it should do nicely... ^_^

and if at absolute worst, it doesn't look like it will make it (I'm talking, REALLY bad...) cut off the "good" parts and try to propagate the plant... it'll be hard, at this point, since it'll almost be dead, and most plants like to propagate when they're healthy (and in the spring, for these), and of course, it's not easy to "hack" away at something you've devoted energy to... but you might be able to save it that way... IF it gets bad... if it's "okay" for the time being, don't do this, k? o.o

Just keep at it, I'm sure you can make it work out! ^_^

Well it has to be in a room that gets alot of sunlight, which according to my floral design teacher who knows her plants is an East facing room... And there are three of those in my house-- and they're all bedrooms. So it's in my brother's bedroom, but my mom forgets about it when she makes his bed and... BAM! Frederick (that's the name I gave my plant) is on the floor.

I cut away the leaves the last time this happened, and it sprouted into what I had up until this morning, so I might do it again if it doesn't look like it's getting better.

Well... if you've got any north facing rooms that seem to be a bit quieter, you may wanna do that instead... no, it might not be quite enough sunlight, but having it knocked around in a sunny room isn't gonna help it any...

And if that doesn't quite seem like it'll work, you can see about getting a "plant" light... My botany teacher had shelves with the lights above, and just sat the plants on the shelves, and they did great... Now, I don't know how much they cost, but considering that many potheads are able to afford them, I wouldn't think they'd be too expensive...

In any case, it really does sound like you know what you're doing, and I wish you the best of luck! ^-^

You're taking much better care of Frederick than I am of Steve.

Steve is a Venus Flytrap. He came from the Shop-Rite. He's still not very happy, kinda limp. He likes the shade, but I think he has too much shade. He's also very thirsty, so I give him lots of water. I guess he just hasn't gotten what he needs from the bugs that fly around my damb room. Cause they go for the lights instead of him.

But some people just don't understand our love for Steve and Frederick. ;_;

You're not the only person to have "issues" with the Venus Fly Traps... and it looks like some kind, knowledgeable soul put up a very good "instructable" on how to care for 'em...

Though, I've not had much experience with them (practically none, there was one that sat in a wierd container with some pitcher plants in class... that's about it...) so I really can't say for certain whether that guy knows what he's doing... but to me, it looks good... ^_^
