I have a lot of criticism to Handel (that I would not mention in this thread), but I am talking about authentic English composers.
The English, during these periods were extremely good and counterpunct. The inner voices of their pieces are quite more dynamic then Bach's. Bach was much more inventive in harmony often ignoring rules for good voice leading, which to my opinion is more important in counterpunct.

William Byrd, who is an amazing composer, often used very simple and straight forward harmony, writing with astounding inventiveness. (A good example)

I like it, but sometimes it can be over played and gets a little irritating after a while. And that rememinded me of today in music someone was playing Fur Elise over and over again for twenty minutes.... AND they weren't playing it very well either. Did my head in>.<

I love Byrd's Mass for four voices no.2 Gloria! One of my favorite pieces ever!
