I always thought that Sesshomau would say that he protects Rin, but he did'nt...... confused It left me feeling like this neutral who here agrees with me that he should have said it?

Personally, I didn't think he would...at least not yet anyways. I believe in the third movie Sesshomaru is still battling with the idea that he actually has some fatherly feelings for Rin...even if he doesn't want them. He might say it later on, but not right now.

I agree. Sesshoumaru would never admit something like that.

I think his actions would speak louder than words. Rin already found that out while being on journeys with Lord Sesshomaru. Plus if he did say that a lot of enemies would go after Rin and that would be a distraction. If he keeps showing that he doesn't care there will be no need to bother her and she will stay safe.
Sesshomaru never said he had anyone to protect- and he never will, that would be admitting he has feelings, that noone would believe him to have anyway. But in the 3rd movie, when the haunting words of his father come back to him during the final battle, he thinks/imagines about Rin and Jaken, and what it is like with them in his life. And although he says he has noone to protect, Tensaiga will not transform and do what it needs to do, if Sesshomaru does not actually have the feelings needed to make it so. Remember in the series, with the Panther demons he was fighting with InuYasha, he knew he needed to do something before Inuyasha was killed, and Tensaiga started pulsating, while he was watching his brother get beaten up. Tensaiga is connected to Sesshomaru's emotions as much as his will. So- if the emotions and the will aren't there, the sword will not act.
That being said, Rin questioned Sesshomaru about if he would remember her if she died, and he got an almost forlorn look on his face, when he told her to stop thinking about such things. He didn't want to think about a time that she would not be with him!

::EDIT:: Crap! Misread the post!
Anyway, I think it's perfectly fine that Sesshoumaru didn't say he wanted to protect anyone because he did anyway. Sometimes, actions speak louder than words.

I would think He was going soft if He did say that.

Going soft is putting it mildly- he would probably melt into a pile of goo after clawing himself with his poisoned claws before ever stating he wanted to protect anyone. He is fearless in battle, and doesn't seem to care what happens to him, and besides he has reason to be somewhat fearless. Tensaiga has protected his life on more than 1 occasion. From keeping InuYasha from hacking him to bits when he 1st got Tetsaiuga, to the time Naraku tried to absorb him, to a couple of times in the movies.... It would take a form of suicide to kill him, until he reaches about 5000 yrs of age- or is that still a little young to die of old age?

WARNING: IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN ALL THE INUYASHA EPISODES, MOVIES, OR READ THE LATEST CHAPTERS OF THE MANGA, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK! Before the recent events in the Manga, Sesshoumaru resented Tenseiga with all his heart. No matter how many times the sword saved him, Sesshoumaru would have been more than happy to ditch it in the dust and abandon it. The only reason why he keeps the weapon with him is because it is the only surviving relic of his father. Sesshoumaru loves his father and is therefore willing to protect and keep anything that reminds him of the Inu no Taishou. Even Inuyasha.
Hence, one cannot say that Sesshoumaru is fearless because he feels all cute and cuddly with Tenseiga. No, Sesshoumaru felt no fear because of his arrogance in himself. He thought that--as one of the most powerful youkai--he was invincible. Which was why [spoilers]the Inu no Taishou passed down Tenseiga to him, not Tessaiga. Tenseiga was to show him the door to bringing back the life of those who have died, but only once. After Sesshoumaru discovered such a fact, and with the prompt from his mother, he came to understand that even he has his limitations.[/spoilers]
Also, I'd like to point out that Sesshoumaru cannot be killed by his own poison (point is proven when Sesshoumaru [spoilers]kills Mukotsu[/spoilers] and in volume 52).
Finally, as Takahashi points out in the manga, Sesshoumaru's ability to feel compassion does not weaken him. It makes him stronger. Sesshoumaru's ultimate goal was to overcome his father. In accepting Inuyasha for who he is and feeling the desire to protect those he loves and cares about, Sesshoumaru is finally able to surpass his father.

[spoiler reply] Mukotsu uses poisons that he says cannot hurt him, it never says, even in the manga, that he cannot be poisoned![end spoiler reply] He wants to surpass his father in all ways, but anything having to do with humans or hanyou was never mentioned!!! We all know that compassion is one of the attributes his father had, but look at the way he is with Rin and Jaken. And until Takahashi-sama is ready to end the manga series, I don't think he will ever admit-openly or even think to himself- that he does feel compassion. That is just not Sesshomaru-[spolier] don't forget, he didn't want his father to go and try and save Izayoi the night her died in the 3rd movie. He stated that he was after power- nothing more [end spoiler]

If I do remember, [spoilers]Mukotsu tries to attack Sesshoumaru with his poison, he does it because he is positive that it will not kill him. Mukotsu's poison very strong, and even has effects on Shippou and Inuyasha. Also when he asks Sesshoumaru as to why it does affect him, Sesshoumaru promptly responds with: "The poison I have in my arm is far more formidable than yours."[/spoilers] Hence it is logical to say that Mukotsu cannot be harmed by any known poison except for Sesshoumaru's.
I never said that Sesshoumaru was looking for compassion since square one. What I meant was that Sesshoumaru BELLIEVED that by conquering his father through raw power would make him the strongest youkai in Japan. He failed to think about the drive given to compassionate humans/hanyou that made them stronger. For example, in the third movie,
Sesshoumaru sees how Inuyasha's strength multiplies when he's trying to protect Kagome.[/spoilers]
Sesshoumaru is openly afraid of letting his true emotions shine through, which is why fans often mistake him for a villain. The Inu no Taishou taught him through Tenseiga how to express how he felt. Up until recently, whenever Sesshoumaru saved anyone he would come up with excuses as to why he did it. If he could not feel the way humans and hanyou did, then he would have no drive. Sesshoumaru's only drive up until now was to become more powerful. Once he achieved such a thing, he'd become too confident in himself and will likely end up following the same path that the Inu no Taishou followed.
As surfaced in the recient chapters, Takahashi showed us that Sesshoumaru had finally come to terms with himself.
Also, the third movie came out near the end of the animations. That would be somewhere in the middle of the actual manga (that has over 50 volumes). It also depicts Sesshoumaru when he is much younger than he is now. As people grow older, they go through changes. The Inu no Taishou was cut down by Ryuukotsei just as he was beginning to realize that true strength comes from compassion.

Of course he would never admit his feelings. I think he knows in his mind that he dose care for rin and jaken, why else would be protect them? He just won't ever admit it.
i expected it because he is still in deniel, he pretends that he only has Rin and Jaken out of curiousity and not out of compassion but Rin is always taking him by suprise if you watch his behavior instead of what he is saying and Jaken is always making him mad. rofl
