I really don't like this pairing, but I don't know why really. I'm a Zutara fan, but I still like other Zuko and Katara pairings like Jetara Kataang, and I even like Zuko/Ty. It's just something about this I just don't like. *shrugs* Might be because Mai's so depressing, dry, and yeah. Oh and I totally laughed along with my sister when we heard that "You're so pretty when you hate the world." line. That was just a classic epic line.

I love Maiko, but I started losing some respect for it after Nightmares and Daydreams. Because look at this: Zuko finds out there's a war meeting going on that nobody told him about, so he starts feeling genuinely upset, and Mai cheers him up by suggesting he order the servants around?
Wow. Patronizing much?

I've never had respect for this pairing. From the start, it seemed to me like a red herring to ward off some of the ship arguments while we were waiting for season 3 to air. (Whoops. Backfired.)
No matter how much you try, Mai has no character depth. That really bothers me, because if there's no character depth, then there's no shipping, really.

I think people may have some changed perspectives after the recent episodes previous finale and after the finale as well...

Wow. Patronizing much? By ordering servants around, he reafirms that he is price of the fire nation. I think it was supposed to be Mai's way of reminding him that he has been allowed back into the family even if he's not always well informed. I personally adore the pairing. I didn't like it at first since the couple seemed awkward ["I don't hate you too?" blegh], but Mai won be over.

I like them, but I think they could've been done better. They were just kind of thrown in there without explanation...even though I shipped them, I was just like 'wtf?' XD' Boiling Rock was great, but afterwards Zuko doesn't even stop for like three seconds to think about what she just did for him. >.> Then goes running off with Katara for the next five episodes...idk, it just pissed me off. xP
Meh. I really love them both, but they're really not suited for each other. Zuko's too emo and Mai's too emotionally cut off. They can't really take care of each other.
Though I did love the moment when he was going on an emo tangent and she was like, "Geez, I just asked if you were cold, I didn't ask for your life story". XD If that had been their relationship for the rest of the series, I would ship them 100%. But it was kinda hard to support them when I didn't even know how they got together. o-o A childhood crush isn't really enough to back up an actual relationship...

Have you read the comic "Going Home Again"? It's cannon, and makes the scene in The Awakening seem less random. (Shame they didn't have time for it in the show.) And I kind of get the feeling Zuko did think about it, but didn't say anything because it wouldn't be fair to Sokka. And he had to get on Katara's good side, it'd be pretty hard to be an effective team if she still hated his guts.
Zuko's emo-ness was basically caused by his daddy problems. Since he's over that now I think things will start changing for the good. Mai is pretty cut off, but she gets a lot looser with Zuko, he'll probably be good for her.
Just my two cents. ^^
