Adamu’s eyes narrowed as he sighed and sat up right, gazing out at the morning sun as it slowly rose to grace the day. He seemed alright so far, nothing bad had happened yet. The day seemed to be going slow however and he couldn’t wait until the evening. He had a big surprise for a certain female friend of his.
He wanted her to know he cared, after all.
Adamu tilted his head some as he yawed, trying to keep himself awake. It was still early out. Hew wondered where everyone could be, but knew for sure that most were sleeping. He would sit here until the sun fully danced within the sky, that’s when the pride would start moving again.
He sat upon a hill, just a few feet away from where the royal family slept. He wanted to protect Tamu and his family. Adamu felt he owed them that much. He never wanted harm to come to anyone again, not after what happened to his mother.

The king stirred slightly as the sun filtered down and onto his face. It was early morning, right about the time he normally woke up. His routine in the morning was always the same: wake up before most of the pride and patrol the borders to make sure nothing was wrong. Normally there was nothing of significance that ever happened at the border, but that wouldn't stop him from keeping his guard up.
Rising slowly so as not to wake his sleeping children, Tamu picked his way around them and slowly walked away. One of his sons, Corradin, stirred, however, and was about to wake up. But the brown male knew it was too early for him and doubled back to lick his son's head gently. The gesture calmed the cub and sent him back to his dreams. Smiling, Tamu lifted his head and took in the sight of his resting family. He was so proud to have a family such as them. But he couldn't gaze at them forever.
Turning back around, he padded away silently. Once he was a little ways away, he took a moment to stretch out his limbs and warm his muscles up. Once finished, he shook out his mane and took in a deep breath of th morning air. The Kusini lands were so beautiful in the morning.
He was about to go out on his patrol when suddenly he spotted a form out of the corner of his eye. Startled, his fur bristled as he leaped sideways. But his eyes landed on none other than Adamu. Chuckling quietly at his own paranoia, the king shook his head then walked towards the other.
"Hey, Adamu," he called, though not too loud so as not to wake the others. "What are you doing up so early?"

Adamu’s ears pinned back slowly as the king called out to him, thought he didn’t startle himself into shock. He always enjoyed Tamu’s company. Smiling softly the young male spoke out. He looked up to Tamu, sort of like a hero figure.
“I couldn’t sleep at first, but then I decided to wait for the sun to rise.”
Adamu admitted with a rather coy look. He was a real sap at heart.
“What about you? Why are you up so early? On the look out so soon?”

Tamu closed the distance between the other and himself, sitting down upon his haunches next to him. Smiling back, he nodded his head slightly.
"The sunrise is always so beautiful. I can't blame ya for wanting to see it." Soft-hearted himself, the king enjoyed the little things in life such as watching the sun come up in the morning. Even if he didn't, he never was the one to make fun of someone else for something he didn't believe in.
"I'm always up this early," he chuckled slightly. "It's a habit now that I can't seem to break. Even if I want to, I can't fall back asleep after sunrise." He paused and flicked his round ears for a moment. He always wondered why this was so. Perhaps he had done so many times that his body simply put itself on a schedule.
"So I normally patrol the borders before the others wake up, that way I can spend a lot of the day mingling."

“Must be hard.”
Adamu spoke out badly, tilting his head to the side as he looked away from Tamu.
“Being a king and all- I mean, you didn’t even know you were going to be a king so soon… with that… murder and all. I’m very impressed at how well you are doing. Others would have buckled under this pressure.”
He wasn’t stupid, Adamu knew a lot about the royal life and the duties of the king. He obsessed over them for a while now, wanting to know all that he could about his bloodline and mother’s rule over the pride, when she did rule it.
“I will always be here to protect you Tamu. You’re like a father to me.”
Oh, he did it. He let it slip. Boy did he feel silly.
“I... I mean, a hero..”

For a moment, the king didn't know what Adamu meant. But the next words gave him clue enough as to what was being talked about. At the mention of his mother's murder, he suddenly pulled away with his ears back. But no one knew who was the real murderer, at least he didn't think so. Adamu certainly didn't. So he had to act cool.
"Heh, you'd be surprised," he spoke, his voice shakey. "I appear like some pillar of strength but..." He shook his head. What was he doing? He was the king, and as such he had to keep up the image that he was always calm and collective and that he didn't have any weak spots. This confession to Adamu might have him looking like a bad ruler.
"Aah, well, nevermind that," he said, looking embarassed. "I've stayed strong for the pride. If I hadn't been chosen to be king after Father, I might have handled things a bit differently." Try completely different. He might have run away from the pride in shame.
When Adamu admitted that Tamu was like a father to him, his eyes widened slightly and he looked back at the other in surprise. But then he smiled and padded closer to his brother, bumping his head against Adamu's shoulder gently. "Thanks for that. Really, it means a lot to hear you say that." It made him feel like someone actually believed in him, that he wasn't just some mistake on the throne.

Adamu’s eyes softly narrowed as he smiled to himself, hearing his half brothers words. The put his worries to rest, that was for sure.
“Hah, don’t mention it. Really, I just say it how it is.”
He wasn’t going to let Tamu down. He had left his mother down and he knew he had not been strong enough for her, but- this time… this time would be different. This time he would protect Tamu and NEVER let harm come to him.
“Well, I’ll leave you be for a while. You relax; I’ll go and take your place on look out.”
His words were very firm as he stood and sighed deeply, gazing out at the lands before him.
“I’ll see you at noon, I promised ‘Lan I’d take him out for a practice hunt today.”
He didn’t regret telling Tamu his feelings; he never really had a father figure in his life after all.
Tamu was as close to family as he was going to get, minus his sisters.
(End- I'll PM you a link to the next one soon.)
