It was a busy time in the village, with everyone getting ready for the harvest festival. It was especially busy for gardeners like Rhiannon. She spent lots of time gathering the fruits of her labor, often under the bright sun, which left her with even more freckles than usual; it also left her with sore muscles and dirt under her fingernails. But what gardener wasn't willing to put up with that?

Currently she was focused on her carrot row. She dug them out and laid them in piles as she went, giving each a cursory shake to get some of the soil out of the roots. She had mud on her face from wiping sweat out of her eyes, dirt on her knees, and dirt up to the elbows, and she was humming contentedly to herself. Never was she happier than when she was working in her precious garden.

And nothing could be more different from the peaceful gardener than the fidgeting Eos, who was busy chipping away at arrows for the hunters. The fall feast would be soon, and they were going to need to bring in a good number of rabbits and birds to feed the whole village. She only wished she could go out with them. Her coloring made it hard to hunt, but on her own she had found out ways to get around that. Mottled cloaks of earthy colors to cover the bright hue of her fur helped, and she could dye her hair for a day or two. But no. She'd been told to sit here and find something to do. The hunters were busy and didn't need a novice along. So the brightly colored centaur discontentedly sat, grumbling to herself.

The shhk, shhk sound of arrowheads being chipped had drawn her attention to the younger centaur when it began, but they were both busy working and Rhiannon didn't say anything. When she heard a grumble she smiled privately. It was only when she finished with her row of carrots and stiffly got to her hooves that she looked over at the other taur, working not too far away. "Now, isn't that just what you want to spend your afternoon doing?" Rhiannon said playfully, pressing her palms into her lower back and stretching. "It looks like loads of fun."

"Oh yes," Eos replied sarcastically, "this is precisely what I want to do with my afternoon. I mean, who wouldn't?" Still, she diligently chipped away, careful not to shatter the flint. "And what of yourself? You seem to be getting a little more enjoyment from your work." The other 'taur had been smiling all the while, and humming a little tune. Eos supposed that it was nice to be an adult. Nobody could boss you around then, or tell you what you couldn't do.

Rhiannon laughed. "Maybe someone who likes completely tedious things would like it. But I'm right there with you." For a moment she watched the movements and said approvingly, "At least you're not bad at it. That would be a lot worse." She tried to brush some of the dirt off of her arms. Did she enjoy her work? Why yes, she did. "Gardening is my hobby. During the harvest it's my job, but nothing much changes. I still love it." Amiably she suggested, "Perhaps you could request a more likable job. I'm sure there are other things you could be doing that aren't quite so boring."

"I did," Eos grouched, "ask for a more interesting job that is. I wanted to go out with them for the hunt. I've done a bit of that on my own, but they never take me with them. Tell me I'm too bright and all that nonsense. But anyway, as soon as I'm done with this I'm going to help set up the pavillion. That should be vastly more interesting than flinting arrow heads for the bows. And there's to be dancing tonight! Did you hear?"

Eos was vastly fond of dancing, or really anything that involved a great deal of moving about. The brightly colored centaur had far too much energy for her own good, another reason she wasn't the best of hunters. Hunting involved sitting still, or at the very least being quiet.

"Oh yes, the dancing should be fun," said Rhiannon cheerfully. "Maybe I'll go help set up as well, as a break." She stretched and walked in a circle around one end of her garden to get a large, floppy basket that was waiting in one corner with a variety of other implements for carrying vegetables and fruit. Then she started to collect the piles of carrots, shaking and brushing more of the soil from them before laying them neatly in the basket. "If you have some time, would you mind helping me bring these to the cooks? It looks like it's going to take me more than one trip." She was mostly thinking of relieving the young centaur from her boredom for a short time; if she wanted to she could carry them all at once.

"Wouldn't mind at all," Eos agreed pleasantly, glad to have a break from the monotony. Tossing the arrow head she'd been working on into a basket, she put them away and grabbed up one of the baskets that Rhiannon had set aside. Following the other 'taur's example, she cleaned off the carrots, then hauled up the basket. "So do you have anyone to dance with tonight?" She flashed the other 'taur a grin.
