Tu Jin shifted her the cup closet to her around the table. At that point, she didn't look that interested in discussing sales tatics or defending her own. If anything, she looked miserable.

"Yeah, well... Easy for you to say." Tu Jin's personality was the best friend of the curious. She was very much the type to babble about even such tender issues if someone prodded about them. "I know the Avatar because my mom taught her Earthbending, and my dad is just as good as her. They're famous here, and I can't bend at all. My mom never lets me forget it either." She was starting to sound as bitter as her conversation partner. Really, it wasn't her mom she was angry at.

With bending prodigies as parents, why couldn't she bend? It was a disgrace.

"You must mean.. Master Sen Wei." Thump, and the chair was on all four legs again, and Chen Shing had leaned forward to rest his arms against the table. "I'd heard that she had a daughter, but I never heard anything about the daughter's bending abilities." He muttered almost inaudibly. Not to save her from embarrassment anything quite so noble, but because he had an annoying habit of thinking half out loud. 'And,' he continued mentally. 'That must mean that Rook guy I'd heard reopened her school must be the father.'

Huh. Well if that don't beat all.

Ah, well. "Easy, you say. Huh... Maybe." Chen released an aimless sigh through his nose, and propped his chin on a hand. "You are the one that should bend well. Me, I just don't like doing it."

Damn. She was hoping he was one of those few people who lived under a rock and didn't know her name. Tu Jin winced, but nodded. "Yeah, that's my mom." And yes, Rook was her father. He didn't seem to mind she couldn't bend. Not at all.

Tu Jin loved her father, too, but she didn't really want his respect. Sen Wei... She was different. She wanted her mom to at least like her, and as it was, she didn't. That was why she'd told her to 'piss off' while she went and looked for the Avatar.

And it wasn't that Tu Jin didn't like Kahamo as a person, it was just... She got to bend all of them? It wasn't fair.

"You didn't hear about them because I don't have any. --What?!" A particularly harsh bump sent the cup flying off the table. Tu Jin just ignored it. "How can you not like bending?!"

"I kind of figured." Chen Shing scoffed. He wasn't stupid, he'd figured that out when he'd reasoned that Rook must be Tu Jin's father. "I- Hey!" Chen lunged back, narrowly avoiding getting splashed by the flying cup. "Watch it, will you? I don't have the time to clean this shirt today."

He hunched his shoulders at her questioning, and pointedly looked away again, peevishly. "I just don't, alright? It's not that big a deal. It's not like bending makes me a better merchant or anything. Besides, my sisters have that covered, too." All the relaxation that had gathered up until that point in their conversation disappeared as Chen Shing grew more defensive.

"Just because a person can bend doesn't mean that they have to like bending, you know."

What an ungreatful brat...

Tu Jin sighed heavily and ran a hand through her bangs. Ungreatful, ungreatful, ungreatful. It was no use arguing with those types, they never understood. She remembered the Avatar herself complaining multiple times (no older than Tu Jin at the time) she didn't want to bend either.

Ungreatful, ungreatful, ungreatful.

"I wouldn't know," she said simply. "But I better go. I have to find my prodigy mother, speaking of." She always told Tu Jin to stay behind, and she always did. For a few hours. Then she followed her.

The teenager stood up, leaned across the table and kissed Chen lightly on the forehead. It pissed mom off when dad did that, and Chen reminded her a lot of mom. "Later, jerk." She flicked her wrist in a half-assed goodbye wave and was out the door.

"H- Hey!" Chen Shing shot into a straight-backed position, raising a hand to scrub indignantly at his forehead. "What..?!"

Of course he (almost) wasn't aware of the sudden flush that had decided to warm his cheeks. And for certain sure he wasn't going to draw attention to that. So Chen was forced to watch Tu Jin go, and curse the female gender on the whole, for generally assuming that they could get away with things like that.

Wasn't going to change the fact that Tu Jin did get away with it. In fact, she was just out of sight.... and gone.

Satisfied that the annoying girl-merchant wasn't going to come back, Chen decided to work out his frustrations on the hapless manager. It was as safe a target as any, after all.

"Oi! Waitress!"
