For those of you who don't know, I have never gone on a single date in my life. It's not that I have overprotective parents (actually, I think they would've been thrilled if a guy had asked me out in high school), it's just that I never really had much of a social life. I'm one of those people who gets dragged to parties and just stands off to the side watching everyone else and not really doing anything.
Anyway...a few days ago my mom introduced me to this guy. He's a few months younger than me, he's in university, he lives fairly close, and he doesn't smoke, do drugs, and he's not a jerk. So, we started talking, over messengers and stuff if one of us is stuck on campus. I have no idea how, but now I have a date with him next week.
Do I like the guy? Yeah, I'd say so. Do I like him enough to maybe consider him as a boyfriend? I dunno, we'll see how it goes. To be perfectly honest, I'm as nervous as hell. After spending most your life trying to blend into the background, it feels weird when someone suddenly starts paying attention to you.
And on a completely different note: I have glasses now. sweatdrop

Don't be nervous~ I mean not that it'll help to say it, just relax. You arent like selling your soul. If you mess up or stutter or spill something on his pants or anything, it's all good.
Plus you can laugh about it later. [: <3

Trying to meld into the background and then actually trying to take on a conversation about you is going to take a LOT of practice. Having been on both sides (and still working on the conversation part when more than one other person is involved) I can tell you you'll probably be embarassed on your first date.
I think messengers help a little bit, but practice "out in the rl" really help, too. I still kind of get awkward when people call me cute, beautiful, etc. In fact, it wasn't too long a go when a guy encased in glitter complimented me by going "I don't know if I want to spend all night with you or your camera."
Awkwaaard....
Anywayz. Just be yourself, and try to remain calm in embarassing situations, and play it off. Playing it off has become such an intricate part of my life now, I think I've become a bit known for it.
I used to be the nothing in the corner, now I'm getting sex and dating proposals left and right. HUGE a** change. It's been a little over a year and I'm still working on being okay with it.
A large chunk of it comes from self-esteem. If you think you're crap, there's a self - fulfilling prophecy in there... I'm sure you know of it... Yeah.
Faith in yourself, think on your feet, such and such.
But you don't have to listen to me. In fact, you probably know all this. Good luck and have fun on your date. ;P

Glad to hear that you're finally becoming a "social butterfly"... er... well, starting on the path! n_n
Just make sure to bring back your story, for the rest of us who don't have the chance quite yet to enjoy... ^_^( )

I totally understand the blending in thing. I've never dated, either, but I'm glad that you finally found a guy that might be worth it. :3

Alright, so the whole date thing kinda fell through. He only told me the day, but never specified when he'd pick me up or where we'd be going. It didn't help that he hasn't been able to contact me at all for the past week because of my late classes.
I'm somewhere between upset and angry right now, but I'm debating on whether or not I'm going to give the guy a second chance if he wants to reschedule the date. Even though people keep telling me there'll be plenty of other guys, it really doesn't seem that way, otherwise this whole dating thing would be easier.
