Though wanderers by nature, the Air Nomads have four temples hidden away on four different mountain ranges (as seen in white on the map), at each corner of the world. The Northern Air Temple is located in the archipelago between just west of the Earth Kingdom and north of the Fire Nation. The Southern Air Temple is located in the Batola Mountain Range on the islands just north of the South Pole. The Eastern Air Temple in the islands to the southeast of the Earth Kingdom, and the Western Air Temple located on a small island to the west of the Earth Kingdom. The temples are separated by gender, with the Southern and Northern temples for males, and the Eastern and Western ones for females. In each temple is a large cylindrical room locked behind a door which can only be unlocked via Airbending, inside of which is a display of thousands of statues depicting the past Avatars.
The air nomads are comprised of an order of monastic men and women, all of which practiced Airbending. While other nations also have non-benders, everyone belonging to the Air Nation are known to be capable of bending. It is rumored this is because of their deep spirituality. All airbenders, much like Tibetan monks, are vegetarians, and they tend to wear clothing in varying shades of yellow. Air Nomad children go through an apprenticeship at one of the temples under the guidance of a master airbender. Master airbenders sport arrow tattoos, while apprentices do not. Furthermore, all Air Nomads of ranking shave their heads, including the women (though women often wear elaborate headwear or wigs).

.rulers/royalty/goverment/etc.
The Air 'Nation' is run by a singular monk per temple, rather than an overall monarchy. Even then, these monks are not nesscarily 'top dog', and tend to weigh in the opinions of other benders and the public in general when making decisions. (It is important to note this is one of many things different in the shops timeline.)
.military status. The Air Nomads have no established army, navy, or otherwise 'battle' force.

.important figures.
'Master' Gesh: An old-timer who's bones occasionally make unpleasent cracking noises. He is a master of airbending just the same, said by some to be the best there ever is and ever will be. He is also a gentle soul (which comes as no surprise) with an upbeat sense of humor. He also has a deeply serious side probably seen only by the Avatar. It was Gesh who assisted her in every area of training save for fire, earth and waterbending. Gesh is also known for his 'moustache competitions' with the Earth Kingdom's 'Master' Woo.

.important locations.
Northern Air Temple: High in the upper reaches of the Earth Kingdom resides the Northern Air Temple. It is the second of the temples to train male Airbenders, and is modeled much like the Southern Air Temple.
Southern Air Temple: Located in the remote Potola mountain range, the Southern Air temple was one of two temples to train male Airbenders. The temple is large and peaceful, and has an Air Ball arena. It is characterized by it's multiple layers, and it home to flying bison and lemurs.

.airbending.
Airbending is the art of controlling the air. It's based off many fluid circular, windmill like motions, with a particular stress being placed on the ability to chance the direction of movement without losing momentum. These motion techniques are based closely on the Ba Gua style of martial arts. Airbenders can control the flow of air, and the art is a mixture of defensive and offensive tactics, but it should be noted that airbending is used to knock away, knock down and push opponents, not injure or kill them. Airbenders are also known for using their bending as a mode of transportation with the aid of special gliders unique to the Nomads.
Airbenders are usually fun loving and cheerful people. They like a good joke and a good game, and are usually pretty optimistic.
