The classes

What Is Kickboxing?

Although the true roots of kickboxing date back to Asia 2,000 years ago, modern competitive kickboxing actually started in the 1970s, when American karate experts arranged competitions that allowed full-contact kicks and punches that had been banned in karate. Because of health and safety concerns, padding and protective clothing and safety rules were introduced into the sport over the years, which led to the various forms of competitive kickboxing practiced in the United States today. The forms differ in the techniques used and the amount of physical contact that is allowed between the competitors.

Candie has trained in mainly Muay Thai, the Thailand version of kickboxing. Muay Thai literally Thai Boxing and also known as The Art of the Eight Limbs is the Thai name for a form of hard martial art practiced in several Southeast Asian countries including Thailand.has a long history in Thailand and is the country's national sport. Traditional Muay Thai practiced today varies slightly from the ancient art Muay Boran and uses kicks and punches in a ring with gloves similar to those used in Western boxing. Muay Thai is referred to as "The Science of Eight Limbs", as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art.

The Basics

Before you decide to jump in and sign up for a class, you should keep a few basic guidelines in mind:

* Know your current fitness level. Kickboxing is a high-intensity, high-impact form of exercise, so it's probably not a good idea to plunge in after a long stint as a couch potato. You might try preparing yourself by first taking a low-impact aerobics course or less physical form of exercise and working up to a higher level of endurance. When you do begin kickboxing, allow yourself to be a beginner by working at your own pace and not overexerting yourself to the point of exhaustion.

* Comfort is key. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows your arms and legs to move easily in all directions. The best shoes are cross-trainers - not tennis shoes - because cross-trainers allow for side-to-side movements. Gloves or hand wraps are sometimes used during classes - you may be able to buy these where your class is held. Give your instructor a call beforehand so you can be fully prepared.

* Drink up. Drink plenty of fluids before, during, and after your class to quench your thirst and keep yourself hydrated.

Other Lessons:

Learn a pokemon related skill:

Please keep in mind your child must be the appropriate level to learn any new skills.

Classes are normally private and are one on one with the teacher. When requesting a class of this sort you must include the new attack or skill wanted to be learned by the child (list the named attack in your request. Example: Bullet seed, vine whip, fire spin ect.)
Though Candie excels in physical attacks mainly she can ...be creative in coming up with other ways to teach your child the requested skill. Please make sure you include the skill that is relavent to your child's pokemon DNA, do not attempt to teach a water baised child a fire type move.

Self Defense: What it is, and how it is useful.

Self defense is about ending a violent attack, ideally unharmed, not about sparring and exchanging blows.
* The best self defense is not being there in the first place.

* The second-best self defense technique is to run.

* If neither of these two options is available, you must do whatever it takes to stop the attacker.

Self-defense techniques are simple, efficient, and straightforward----not difficult, self-defense is what you think, and more importantly, how you think. In 90% of situations, violence is not necessary, which means 90% of situations can be de-escalated before violence comes into play.

Self Defense for Begginers Level 1:

You will learn the basics of how to de-esculate a situation that involves you coming under attack. This means you will learn how to use your voice to sound firm and in control despite what emotions may be fluttering inside your head at the moment.

You will also learn some very simple techniques to help stop an attacker if they do progress and try to touch you, grab you or hurt you.
A word of caution though, nothing works all the time, none of these techniques are guaranteed. Sometimes a person is beyond being human and is just a monster, disregarding all your attempts at ending the violence quickly.

There will be a take home assignment at the end of the class if you choose to continue onto Self Defense Level 2.

Self Defense for Begginers Level 2:

In this lesson you will learn in more detail about strike points. How effective certian places are to hit and how hard you need to hit to gain a reaction.

If you poke someone in the eye, in the throat, hit them with a palm on the bridge of the nose, strike to the groin, kick them in the front or side of the knee, these will all hurt, distract, and it works on mostly everyone. None of these points are covered by muscle, fat (on normal humans), whatever size or condition of the person, does not matter. The only thing that matters is how hard you strike.

There will be a Final Test to show how much you have learned in the two classes thus far. This test will include written as well as demonstration portion. You must get at least 70% passing grade to move onto the next level of defense.

Self Defense Advanced level 1:

In this lesson we learn how to use common tools as weapons, for example sticks, keys and whatever you can find and get your hands on. Students will not be asked to bring in weapons, instead they will be given a selection provided by the teacher (mostly harmless items, like keys, a rock, stick and the likes) The items change and vary per class and students are encouraged to take this class numerous times if just to get use to weilding an unfamilar weapon.

You will have a quiz, at the end of this class to see what you have learned. You need at least 50% to pass and continue onto the next level.

Self Defence Advanced level 2:

In this class we will work with Fire arms, Knives, clubs and other more potentially dangerous items. You will need your parent(s) to sign a release form to use Fire arms, as under aged children are not allowed to weild them in public or in general. Once again you will not be required to bring your own weapons, and in fact it is looked down upon if you do.

You will be working with dummies, as we don't want to have any harm coming to any of the students. Any unprovoked or provoked attack against another student will cause the attacked to get an instant fail and be expelled from the class.
