mahii perked up behind Nanashi and listened. Unfortunately, she wasn't blessed with good hearing, "I don't...hear anything," she said. "I'll trust you though...you've got the ears for it.

Nanashi followed the sound, his ears swiveling. The sound was clearer when he pushed open a nondescript door with stairs winding down into dimness. He grimaced and started down the steps.
Iole paused to listen. Footsteps! Yay! She resumed wailing.

mahii followed Nanashi carefully, peering into the inky dankness of the staircase. She heard the wailing faintly now and rolled her eyes. That was one of the kids alright.
Kamu was cradling the hissing, spitting kitten, keeping him from running at the sound of Iole's wails. The kitten wanted no part of this and tried to alternately run and burrow himself into Kamu. She giggled at his tickling fur.

When Nanashi reached the bottom of the staircase, his ears were flattened back from irritation and the volume of Iole's wails. He noted that Kamu had ... something, and threw Mahii a tired, puzzled look. "It appears she found it. Whatever it is," he said.
Iole stopped yowling when the adults came into view, and bounced impatiently. She stretched her arms up to Nanashi and demanded, "Up, up."

mahii grimaces when she sees Kamu holding something small and furry, "I don't know what'd be worse...if it was alive...or if she killed it." She reached out her arms to Kamu and the little cat-girl growled and curled up around the ball of fluff. "aw..c'mon, Kamu. you can cuddle in the room. It's warmer up there!"
Kamu glared at the Tailless One. She'd go. but just this time. Not that she was going back to the room until she was ready anyway. She stuck her tongue out.

Nanashi picked Iole up and settled her on his hip. "We are going to have a talk about going places without adults," he said to her. He turned to look at Mahii and Kamu again. "What does she have?"
Iole latched her claws into her parent's robes and settled comfortably intothe crook of his arm. All was well with the world.

mahii by now had pried Kamu off the floor and she pushed her face into the ball of fluff and caught a glimpse of the little face. She snapped her head back with the most perplexed look on her face, "I think...she's got a panther cub...."
Kamu purred. Tailless One wasn't as dumb as she thought. She had big cat like House said.

"A panther cub. Lucky you," Nanashi said dryly. He started back up the stairs.
