Beck is the most recent addition to my anime collection. It is the story of a boy named Koyuki who has no particular interests; at the age of 14, he feels like his life is at a standstill. But then he meets 16-year-old Ryusuke, and he begins to find a passion for music.
I really, really love this show. It's not even the music aspect that draws me in--I'm almost as ignorant of music as Koyuki is at the beginning of the series. I love it because Koyuki is such an easy character to relate to. He feels like he's alone, with nothing that makes him special, and it's not until he discovers his passion that he begins to change.
What do other people think? Why do you love this show? Or why do you hate it?

Wow, Beck. I really can't even begin to describe how much I'm enjoying this show. I'm completely oblivious to the world of music, but the passion that these characters have for this world can be felt by someone as oblivious as me. I don't know, I always have a new kind of bounce in my step after I watch an episode or two. I love the characters and I love how they are.
And that passion that they feel is something I haven't felt in a long time, so it's wonderful feeling it again...in a way. (:
I just watched the third volume. Have you gotten that far, Calica? There was a scene that just sent chills up my spine. (:

I have not gotten it yet, though if we set foot in a Best Buy today I just might. But I have read the manga released in English, since my boyfriend buys it, so I would know what scene it is.
I love shows/movies where someone discovers a passion and just goes for it. Paradise Kiss, Whisper of the Heart... those are really good examples of that, too. It's just really inspirational to see someone discover their talent, and realize that they could actually be good at something.

I was talking about the scene when The Dying Breed pulls Koyuki up on stage at their special secret show in Japan. *spine chills* It was just so...amazing! And then they burned jerkface's guitar. xDD
Is the manga good? I may have to start buying that, too. 8D
Paradise Kiss...I've been meaning to look into that. Another really good passion show is Kaleido Star. Oh my gosh, ultimate reach for your goal anime if there ever was one. 8D

The manga is good. My boyfriend prefers that, while I prefer the anime.
Kaleido Star is amazing! XD I still need to buy the second season.

I finally finished Beck. The last two episodes were rushed, but still fun to watch. I wish the show could have been just a few episodes longer, though, to even out the pacing.

I thought the other episodes on the disc kind of made up for the somewhat rushed ending though. Oh! At Sakruacon this year I got to meet and talk with Brina Palencia, the voice of Maho! It was really neat...She said Beck was her favorite show she's worked on, and then I told her it was my favorite dub of this year/last year...I just wish I could have gotten her autograph on the sixth disc of Beck like I'd planned...but at least I got her autograph at all. This was actually my first time meeting a VA too.

Aren't voice actors fun? I met her at Anime Boston '07, she signed one of my FMA DVDs. She was just an adorable person.
And yes, the other episodes on that disc are quite amazing. Koyuki is win. I wish I knew him for realz sometimes.
