I was wondering if anyone could suggest an accurate translation program. Free would be nice but don't be afraid to mention it because it's $50+ or even $150+

All help is appreciated.

I'm not sure. In my experience, programs have never translated Japanese particularly well...

What she said. Basically when it come to good translation programs, there aren't any. Take that 50 bucks and buy a Japanese text book

I think if you really need something translated, bring it to a local campus and see if you cannot get someone from that culture (foreign exchange student) to help translate it for you in whatever particular language you need. You can offer to pay them a few dollars for helping you out too, since almost every college student is in need of a little money. Or, of course, learn the language yourself is another option. blaugh

Most translating programs translate word for word, but different languages have different sentence structures, so if you said one thing in English, put it through a program and sent it to a person in Japan, there reaction might be "なんでやねん?!" (なんでやねん?! = nandeyanen?! = "What the hell?!")

Yeah, I really don't recommend any translation program. I speak Spanish and English fluently and one time I was proofreading something that a friend translated using a translation program.

These programs are not real people, and translate very strangely. For example, if you input the phrase "I can fly" you'll get the spanish translation of "Yo lata mosca" which means "I. can (of food) fly (the insect)" which makes absolutely no sense.

I recommend, instead, a comprehensive English<>Japanese dictionary, or electronic dictionary.
