Even though it's not November yet, there's still plenty do to and get done before the actual writing begins.
So, what's the progress you've made on your book so far?
Keep us updated. It's funner that way.

I've only laid the bare bones for my novel. I know generally what the story is going to be able, and a bit of the background. Perhaps one of these days, instead of revising (which I should be doing now instead of posting) is character developement.
Though that's generally something I do as the story goes along. Still, it'd be nice to get at least some of the names down before I plunge in come November.

I have the whole plot mapped out, but I only have one of the characters named. xD I also need to figure out how oil works and if animals could live off of it. Since it's basically just really dead plants...

I have the entire story outlined in detail. I have profiles on the two main characters. I made a map of the immediate area where the story takes place, as well as a map of their house, complete with where the furniture is. And then I got bored and made a banner. And a skin for the countdown clock I downloaded. And a book cover. And a soundtrack. i even figured out where each song would play if the book were to be made into a movie, and then I color coded the lyrics based on who's scene it would play in.
I'm more than ready for NaNo! Now, if it would just hurry up and get here ...

I've got the main characters and magic system laid out. The airship is named but the deck plans haven't been done.

Well, here's some advice for preparing (found in the forums on the NaNo site). I think it'll really help, so even though it looks long, read it through. Quote: My advice: Prepare. Specifically, get the following concepts down on paper (or in a separate computer file): * The theme of your book. This can be as simple as "boy meets girl" or as complex as "Jason and Medea swipe the Golden Fleece, trade it in for some magic beans and turn Mickey Mouse into a frog." It's a three-sentence (max) concept of the entire book; it's the single most necessary item in your arsenal, because it will drag you back onto track. * Ten characters. You'll want basic descriptions, motivations and goals for each. You may not use all of them, but having them will be an advantage. * A generalized idea of your plot, including five separate scenes or conflicts. If you get stuck, you'll need to be able to jump from conflict to conflict. Filling in the middle maxes out word counts. * A commitment to twenty minutes of uninterrupted noveling time a day. You'll find you probably need more, but 20 minutes will get you started. * 5 different locations, including detailed descriptions. Like item # 2, you may not use them all, but you do need them on hand. * If you haven't already, select some good writing tunes forinspiration. If your library is embarassingly small, set up an account on Pandora (pandora.com) and select some good tunes to start a couple of stations. Put that on your faves menu as well. Pandora is free, by the way.

Thanks for posting that, BS Ha. It's pretty good advice. Makes me think I should go profile some minor characters ... *wanders off to profile*

No problem. smile The person who posted that, apparently, almost reached 200,000 words last year. You can see why I took the advice, too
