The drum coach for my line is affectionately called "Red hat Rob" we love our red hat Rob. so, we were all horrified to find that at band camp...there was a woman (tho she looked like a man, she was in fact a woman.) claiming to be the "New drum coach." she was a mean lady. when we were setting drill, the center snare pointed out a mistake she had made trying to set us (Which she wasn't supposed to be doing anyway) and she stole his drill and didn't give it back. she never set the cymbal players and we had to borrow the clarinet's section's drill to find out where our sets were. This mean lady made me ill...literally. so, yesterday, when the line walked into the band room for practice and we saw our Red Hat Rob, we all jumped on him and gave him a big group hug.
anyone else have this kind of thing happen to them? or any stories about coaches or captains? doesn't have to be just drumline, guard is welcome to.

My high school guard hasn't had a decent instructor until now....so we would never hug an old one! lol
We had a horrible instructor for the '05 season.....she didn't even finish writing our routine for the 1st tune until like a week into the season....the 2nd tune partway through.....and the 3rd one not until the day before finals. Then she had to audacity to blame the fact that we didn't do so great on us. stressed Plus she dated 2 of the band kids, and screwed them both over.
Then over the summer our director was looking for a new one, and could only find some old lady who could only do severely outdated stuff....
Then he gave up entirely, so for '06 season, we had no instructor -- our captains did it all. It was like a billion times better that way! Cuz they actually knew what they were doing, and were much more experienced in.....well, being good captains/teachers. This year, the captains (who graduated) are the new instructors.

our old drumline instructor resigned before last season. practically everyone misses him because he also taught lessons at a local guitar shop (we had our own basement filled with drumsets, mallet percussion and drum pads.) it's not like we don't like the instructor we have now it's just that all of the upperclassmen had him as an instructor for 2 or 3 years. BUT i am very happy because he's coming back this weekend :]

Update.....That old lady is back.....and I have no idea why. The guard was doing fine until she came....and now they're severely screwed up. God, I'm not spinning or teaching anymore, and that gets me so angry! stressed I was clapping out the time during warm up for competition...and the old lady is there trying to do it too...except she fails horrible and was half a beat behind...no wonder no one was in time.

Last year: Brandon- pit coach Tim- Drum coach, alumni, blue devils Jeff- Other drumline coach, also alumni
So we all hated Brandon, I mean it's hard to like a coach that says were not supposed to have fun. So our BD fired him. Now Tim is the pit coach, and Jeff who was the helper before is now the official drum coach.

our BD of 2 years left at the end of last year and so basically we had all new staff this year except for our drumline instructor who the entire drumline loves, hes totally awesome, but now HE'S leaving us right before winter season cuz he and our new BD cant agree on stuff....
ya it sucks, so the current pit instructor is becoming the temporary drumline instructor until we find a new person
were all gonna miss Ed, but at least hes goin to work at Sanger, so we'll get to see him at competitions and stuff : ) haha and our asst. BD last year is now the BD at Sanger this year : P
