The more Greg talked, the more she shrinked against him, ducking her head to hide her growing blush. Alex didn't know enough about Kenth to know he was acting any differently than her limited knowledge of him provided; by his brother's description, the doctor was positively a recluse, and she was miraculously tolerated by him. But why? Did he...could he really...? She could practically feel her ears burning, a silly smile on her face. Maybe it was true...and maybe not, but it still made her heart swell to hear it.

At the mention of bounty hunter gear, she started to laugh, lifting her own head to look at Greg as he moved to look at her. She was all grins and flushed cheeks, but her mirth quickly dimmed into a guilty simmer as he continued. Her green eyes lowered, staring at nothing on his shirt, unable to meet his earnest blue gaze. "Your brother..." Her voice sounded a little choked to her ears, so she cleared her throat and tried again. "Your brother, he...fills a part of me I didn't know was empty. As though I'm rooted, now, instead of being lost to the wind. If he ever...ever decided I was a boia, I think the wanderlust would take me again. My heart couldn't stand it..." Her voice became quiet, a little confused, "...and I don't know why."

The conversation became far too serious for her tastes, swallowing roughly and shaking her head. "What girl doesn't want to be pursued by a tall, handsome guy? Your threats aren't going to work, it's kind of romantic." Alex grinned, a soft bit of giggling escaping her as she playfully brushed some of his red hair from his eyes. Really, she knew that she and Greg could get into no end of trouble with such thoughts.

“That’s what love is, Alex. It’s something wonderful, that you didn’t even realize you were missing but now you can't see how you didn’t. Something that should terrify you to no end, because you can’t control it and others have to give it to you. Part of you belongs to someone else now, and it’s scary, but if they give part of themselves to fill the part that they took…” He smiled. “It’s really probably the best thing that can happen.”

He was silent then for a while, and simply let her stroke back her hair. Then he took her hand and simply looked at it for a moment, rubbing her fingers with his. It was smaller, and feminine obviously, but calloused from the work and good that she had done with her life. He wondered if Kenth ever looked at them like that, like he had looked at her hands. Like he had looked at all of her. He should. He would miss something wonderful in his life if he didn’t pay attention to her.

“You may laugh now, but when I find you and tie you up you won’t be laughing. You’d be mad then, and quite frankly I wouldn’t care one bit. I’d just take you back and handcuff you to a door if I had to. Besides I don’t know who you’re talking about this tall handsome guy. I don’t have any sidekick.” He smiled up at her.

Alex fairly gaped at Greg as he talked, the blush in her cheeks still visible despite her dark skin, her bright eyes rimmed with unshed tears. She numbly looked down at their hands, curling her scarred fingers around his, tracing over his wrist and palm before entwining them together, effectively holding his hand. Even as he joked, her heart felt light, as he often made her feel, speaking to it with words she'd never thought of.

Lifting his hand to encircle it with both of hers, she pressed her lips to the back of his knuckles fondly. "I've always loved your ability to say what I need hear, without me knowing that I needed to." Alex rubbed her cheek over the back of his hand, eyes closing again. There was a lot she wanted to say, wanted to explain to him, wanted to be understood for...too much, and she didn't know where to start. The only anchor between reality and her mind was his hand, which she was holding tenderly to her jaw. Instead of saying any of those things, she said this:

"I'd give you the fight of your life before you got me tied. That alone would be worth it."

Greg smiled and watched as Alex gripped his hand, squeezing hers back. “You just need a little reassurance of what you already know. Everyone needs that sometime, I’m just glad that I got it right. You’re reassuring enough to me just being here.” Especially with things looking as they were. She had come at such a good time. He didn’t need to act quite so much around her, and he didn’t need to lie to her, and he needed that. He smiled at the joke and shook his head.

“It’d be worth every hit, cut and bruise that I got from it just to get you back here.” He leant forwards and kissed her forehead. “Because there are people here who would miss you, and I’m most defiantly one of them. Because I don’t want to make the same mistake and let you leave again; and little things like cuts aren‘t enough to deter me from keeping you in all our lives, and keeping you happy here.”

Eyes still closed, the woman smiled against the hand in her gentle grasp, chuckling very softly at the implications. "Oh come now Logan, you know I couldn't hurt you, not really." Green showed through her lashes as she opened her eyes to look at him. "It's a sickness, you know...wanderlust. It's quiet now, and I hope it stays that way." She felt like a wild animal, taken in as a unique pet; it was in her nature to wander, and if the one who chose to keep her heart should lose interest...she couldn't help it. The call was too loud, and it deafened her. She hoped it would never come to that.

"I'm used to being the one doing the reassuring, not being on the receiving end." Alex struggled to talk about herself, and be serious about it. It was easily one of the hardest things she could manage to do. "You didn't let me do anything...I took it upon myself, and made that decision. I've paid for it everyday since." It was too serious, she couldn't stop herself! "I know you would have hogtied and gagged me if you caught wind that I was leaving." She sighs quietly against his hand, looking at him a little apologetically. Alex had no idea why she was avoiding it so much; maybe it's because the anniversary of what had set all the events in motion was coming...

((This isn't as good as the other posts.... =.=; But I want to go and eat... Sorry ^^; And I forgot the other guys name. =.=; Was it Hector? I’m gonna go with that until you tell me I’m wrong and give me the right one.))

“I would have. George and Hector were both really upset when you left, and if hog tying you would have stopped you… Well I would have. I the most gentlemanly way possibly, of course.” Greg said. He paused then added slowly “You never did say anything about why you left, or what happened.” He didn’t want to make her tell him, and he wasn’t going to. With how little he had told her about why he had left he didn’t have any right to demand it from her, but if she wanted to tell him, then he certainly wanted to know. “If you don’t want to talk about it… I understand, things happen and sometimes they’re things that we don’t want to share, but if you do want to talk…. I’d like to listen.

((I so don't remember. XD That sounds right though!))

"Uncle Hector...well. I bet his brother and wife were even more upset." Her smile was thin and humorless, remembering her adopted parents. She wondered if they were even alive now. Alex released Greg's hand slowly, shoving her own hands into her pockets to keep from being so clingy. It was hard to think about difficult things when she was so happy, as strange as that sounded. She breathed deeply through her nose, tilting her head back to look skybound. The woman didn't feel strong enough to tell the whole story, not tonight.

"The short version is, I wanted the life that I couldn't have, so I left to experience life for myself." She squinted at the sky, trying to recall the day she left; it was hazy, too full of emotions to pin down everything precisely. "The man who saved me...you know, I never got his name, but it's thanks to him I'm here today. Between him, you, Uncle...heck, even little Georgie, I felt out of place. Like I didn't really have anything worth having...if that makes sense." She lowered her gaze to the ground, her expression mostly neutral despite her dark eyes.

Alex hesitated before continuing. "I don't think I ever told you...but when she passed...my brother also left this world, a few days after." She wasn't sure why she told him that; she had long since made her peace with her brother's death, and she held no grief. What bearing did it have on anything? Or did it have everything to do with her decisions? It certainly influenced her to stay in the family business, which she still did begrudgingly, but to leave...? No, she had no one to blame for that but herself. "I was a child," she mumbled to herself, looking like a child still with her hands tucked in her pockets and her shoulders slumped, "I made a mistake, but I've done the best I could. I'm not sure I can really tell you why without chewing on your ear for a few hours."

((It was H something… ))

Greg let Alex move away, and didn’t speak as she told him her story. He understood that it wasn’t exactly something that she was the most comfortable with. Just like how he felt with his past. He was a bit upset with himself for now knowing about her brother, that was something that he felt that he should have known about. Well at least now he had a chance to make amends. Or at least a chance at them. He stood still for a moment, then closed the gap between them, just slightly, and put a hand on her shoulder.

“Alex… I don’t mind you ‘chewing on my ear’ for a few hours. First off I haven’t been exactly quite myself. Second...” He smiled and let his arm loop around her shoulders in a lose hug. “I want to know what happened, if you want to tell me. I’m always here if you need, or want to tell me something.”

((*has a craptastic memory, especially for names* 8D ))

Her eyes shifted from the ground to the hand on her shoulder, a brief tremor running through her in relief. She had been momentarily afraid that he wouldn't forgive her, or would scold her...but no, that wasn't Logan. He was comforting, and warm, and...gods, but she hadn't been hugged since the day she left! Alex caved into his arms, wrapping herself around him in another tight embrace. She was starting to feel affection starved, which likely wouldn't bode well for the white-haired object of her own affections...

The image of icy eyes looking none-too-amused and deeply annoyed flited through her mind; somehow, she felt soothed. Taking another deep breath through her nose, Alex exhaled her words softly, "I don't mind. Just...not out here, huh? I'd rather just talk to you. The night has already seen it all." She was trying to joke around, but there was a soreness to her words that indicated otherwise. "I haven't unpacked, and apparently I have a room...we can find it and I can talk."

She needed to rest, and the option of sitting down would do wonders to ease her sore ribs and back. It would also allow her to look away if she needed to, pretending to unpack or whatever the case may be. For some reason, she just...didn't want to be alone right now. The man who understood her affecionate nature and returned it seemed like the perfect night time candidate.
