With cars getting more powerful everyday, what do you consider the differance between a supercar and a sportscar?

My opinion:
A sports car can be driven at a high speed and handles well, and is designed with the ability to use on the track as well as the street. Spirited driving is usually the goal in mind with the design of a sports car. Examples of sports cars (In my mind) would be the Nissan Fairlady Z, Mazda Miata, Honda S2000, Toyota Supra, and Lotus Elise/Exige, to name a few.
Supercars are designed with wretched excess, and can't really be taken even close to their limits outside of a racetrack. The main difference between a supercar and a sports car is the completely pointless amount of horsepower carried by the former. While these cars may be exquisitely designed, they are (In my opinion) fairly pointless to own unless one has access to a racetrack. Examples include the Chevy Corvette Z06, Ferrari F430, and the Saleen S7.
Of course there is another class, that could be in a way described as "true" sports cars because they are designed with motorsport specifically in mind. These cars started out as limited-production vehicles, originally intended to sell in limted quantity in order to meet requirements to compete in manufacterer's championships. Examples include the Lancia Stratos, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and Ford GT40 (Not the Ford GT)

Super cars IMO are determined by price.

I agree with Masticatius, for the most part.
A sports car is, in my opinion, always there to make you feel like Schumacher while not exceeding the speed limit (MX-5 is a prime example.)
A supercar messes with G-forces, then a hypercar messes with G-strings. haha.

A super car is any car (w/o jet engines strapped to it) that changes the way we look at a car's performance. Or a car that is just so unbeleivably fast that it makes you say "holy shi*!" Now a Sports car is much like a super car where it makes you jelous of the person that owns it but the difference is that the price is just low enough to have you dream about having one in your garage one day. See i don't think that i will ever own a Veyron or a Saleen S7, or a Ferrari However i feel that i may just be able to own a Miata or a Lancer Evo or a Supra or a WRX some day. Some day a looong time from now.

I tell you, for it to qualify as a proper supercar it must be three things. It must be low, be powerful, and have its engine in the middle. It's got to look, sound, and feel like "the business".
