"But...what if Safi doesn't want to come?" Hauzu'l fretted, "What if she wants you to stay? You cann't leave her! I-I'd sneak off, so you couldn't follow me! I might be your friend, but you love her, Zuri! And you two should be happy, no matter what."

Zuri shook his head. If it weren't so worrying to see Hauzu'l this way, it would have been almost funny to see him so frantically worried. It was very uncharacteristic for the dark lion. "I do not think you will have to do that, ssilly lion. I ssaid we'd all go together, didn't I? And we will, I promisse."
Suddenly, he found himself remembering the grown lion before him as a tiny, shaking cub, trying to wake his mother up from an endless sleep. No...he could never, ever leave Hauzu'l. He had been left too much already.
"I'll talk to Ssafi, and we'll ssee about a plan, hmm? I'm sure you'll want to ssay goodbye to Tisha at leassst."

He blinked back the tears that threatened to well up and spill over, smiling at his friend with the deepest gratitude he had ever felt. "Thank you, Zuri."
"Yeah...yeah, you're right, I should. She's been so nice to me..."

"That'ss ssettled then." Zuri was genuinely relieved as he returned his friend's touching smile. They sat in quiet together for some time afterwards, before he uncoiled himself and slithered off in search of his mate - they had things to talk about.
