Jini watched from behind a massive, gray boulder as an impressively large boulder cleaned and groomed himself on the hills. Her blood colored eyes were wide and eager, full of anticipation of the kill she was about to make. It had been a couple of hours since she'd eaten anything at all and, as she silently cursed her stomach for growling a second time, the young lioness was beginning to the full weight (or lack, there of) of her empty belly.
Jini bent low to the ground and tip-toed to the edge of the boulder, tail swishing back and forth behind her. She was so close. The adolescent held her breath as the bird twisted to look up at the clear, blue sky and then returned to pecking at it's feathers.
Relief washed over her. For a second there, she was sure she'd been caught.
With a mighty roar and a great leap, Jini dove at the creature that would hopefully become her future meal. Unfortunately, all of her efforts were completely lost as the bird, who'd been expecting the attack, let out a maniacal cackle and thrust itself into the air. Jini landed roughly in the spot the bird had just vacated, with a pout on her face and an 'umph' sound.
