yep, Sabaku no Gaara is just a title.
Or Temari would be something like it too.
Jiraiya, Orochimaru and Tsunade don´t have a last name too. (Tsunade's last name is not Koichi, like the French say. They are just uncapable of saying Tsunade-sama. They had to make up a last name for her)
But Tenten's case is just unfair...
SHINO HAS A FATHER! There's something to get an idea of a background.
What about Tenten?
She is the only genin I liked before the time skip, not, in shippuuden, she and sakura are the only worthy chuunin.
(can't say they are the best, 'cus this is Tsunade's position.)

Akatsukis New Leader_Suzu Tenten, Temari, Gaara, Kankuro, Guy, Lee lots of characters dont have last names biggrin but the past..she was a filler character in the manga. >.> you onl see her during the chuunin exams and during the Gaara arc of the Shipuuden manga >.> Guy's full name is Maito (forgot english name) Gai (Guy) and lee Rock Lee

Akatsukis New Leader_Suzu Tenten, Temari, Gaara, Kankuro, Guy, Lee lots of characters dont have last names biggrin but the past..she was a filler character in the manga. >.> you onl see her during the chuunin exams and during the Gaara arc of the Shipuuden manga >.> Gai Maito Rock Lee Gaara no sabaku (i'm not sure if this is right) temari no sabaku kankuro no sabaku (they have last names)

Well, that doesn't make me feel any better...
Tenten is one of my fave characters (beside Neji, Shikamaru, and Temari) and everytime I read fanfiction about her, they all have a different background.
Hey, I don't know but maybe she was meant to be that way. Kishimoto-san's giving us a part to play in Naruto. We can begin and finish Tenten's story ourselves :]

I added the no at the end because like Tsukino Usagi (which if I remember correctly means "Rabbit of the Moon", so the of the desert part would combine Sabaku and No together)
