Overhead, the sun was reaching its zenith and relentlessly blaring down waves of heat and light that lit the Pride lands up and made them dance in the glimmer of a haze. Sunlight splashed the lands, broken only by small wisps of clouds that tried in vain to provide relief to the old pride. It was for this reason that many lions either sought shade or water, and sometimes both. In the middle of summer, the days could be torture, especially if the right sources of relief couldn't be found. It was especially torturous to those with dark pelts, for dark shades seemed to conduct heat like none other could.

It was to a waterhole that the small adult had meandered this day, her golden-brown fur hidden slightly in the half-decent shade of a knotted, gnarly old tree that dabbled its roots in the edge of the water. Curled up in the most shade that she could find from the twisted, warped and scraggly little thing, her deep blue orbs lazily watched the scenery around her - though took little interest in anyone or anything. The heat made her slightly nostalgic, and coupled with the thoughts that now plagued her incessantly, she seemed to be only vaguely aware of anything that was going on around her.

She had never had a male do something like this to her mind, warp and twist it until she could no longer decide what emotions were able to be labeled. She couldn't recall ever being so caught up over anyone before, and certainly not a male. A male that had a cub even. She sighed softly to herself at the thought and shut her eyes tightly, hoping that if perhaps she could try hard enough to forget, he would simply vanish from her mind. Little help that did, though, and she simply rolled onto her side in irritation. This was all very, very unlike her.

A large male drifted silently from his home, form stark against the dry grasses and shadowing the petite body that walked beside him. His path drew him close to where the secluded water hole was, his intent to speak with one of his many children. And this, he found himself with the small copper and gold cub by his side, taking a moment every so often to make sure she was keeping up and that she hadn't gotten to hot as of yet.

"Papa..." The youth broke him out of his thoughts, "Where are we going, exactly? This isn't the way to the waterhole..." She trailed off and tried to peer above the high grasses, unable to see much save for his large paws and the blue sky above.

Pausing in his steps, he let out a grin and gently brushed his tongue across her pelt, a purr pulling from his throat a moment before he looked back up.

"We aren't going to the normal watering hole, Semine, there are other ones scattered about that are much more secluded, so we can get a chance to talk. You always seem to want to know about my life before your mother..." Chuckling, he finally looked ahead and saw the gnarled tree, grin widening a split seconded when he saw not a single soul around, missing the sandy form of Kiasi as he turned back and nudged his daughter.

"Almost there," And he pushed her along, excited to just take a chance to spend some time nearly alone and get some weight off of his chest.

It was the distant toll of voices that made her lithe little frame sit up, the navy optics immediately snapping open in an attempt to locate the pair of lions to whom those vocals belonged. Her head turned around slowly, eyes narrowed slightly as she tried to differentiate between the golden grasses and any form that may have been out there in the distance. Her ears swiveled back on her head, attempting to hear from which direction the voices originated. Finally, at a distance, she saw the large form of what looked like Ta'Ziyan (nearly every pride lander knew him by sight, if not directly) and some little other that was trotting along beside him.

"Great," she muttered quietly beneath her breath, eyes narrowing on the petite little figure in an instant distaste, "I bet that's one of the little royal brats." She sighed and shut her eyes, hoping against hope that they would just go elsewhere. It's not that she disliked the new litter of royal babies in particular, she just disliked all cubs in general. However, as she realized they seemed to be directing their path in the water hole's direction, she sighed. She couldn't just lay there without saying anything - that would be extremely rude. With a little huff, she pushed herself up and stalked partially out of the shade. At least she was making herself known.

"Good afternoon Ta'Ziyan," she said calmly, though not exactly overly-kindly, once he was in hearing distance. She would leave if he dismissed her and probably be glad for the excuse not to have to be around a cub.

Padding on silently once again, Ta'Ziyan was surprised to see a new form appear from the shadows much alike a ghost. Shivers running down his spine, he tried to shake away his own lurking shadows of the past and focus upon simply trying to find who it was. Pausing a second, he stepped in front of the small cub, stopping her in her tracts. By than, he had come into listening distance, and let out a soft breath when a greeting was made.

"Good afternoon..." He called after, a bit distressed when he couldn't reply with her name in return. However, he did recognize her as one of the many cubs that had prospered since his coming into the lands. Smiling at the thought, he glanced to his daughter before pushing through the grasses and into the open.

Behind him she followed obediently, a small smile crossing her maw. She held next to her father like a pup following their mother, keeping close enough that with every step her side brushed the far toe on his paw. Upon the sight of the female, her eyes slanted slightly with a wider grin, and she bowed her head in a meek greeting, curiosity drenching her eyes. Patiently, she awaited for her father to introduce her, not really one to jump the gun like many others in her family might have.

She wasn't offended by the way he moved to protect his daughter - she had seen the way parents were so worried all the time, especially around lions they were unfamiliar with. She supposed that if she had a cub (she was still unsure that she ever did) then she would have done the same thing. After all, her father had been very adamant about doing so every time they went out. Of course, she was the only girl and was partially treated that way because of such.

"I'm sorry," she said with a smile, nodding her head in greeting, "I do not think we've ever properly met before. My name is Kiasi'Nyota." The affection of her parents and older brother was evident from even her name, "Little Star". Glancing towards the little cub, she gave her the same smile, not overly kind or cruel - just there. At least the little thing hadn't started talking yet, or hadn't bounded over to play. She hated when they did that.

The large male was visibly releaved when she didn't show any sort of disdain or signs of being a rouge. In fact, as she started to introduce herself he felt his shoulder smooth out and his paws relax, moving a step away so his daughter could see the elegant pridelander before them.

"It is a pleasure to meet you Kiasi'Nyota, I apologize myself...it seems that I haven't had much time to familiarize myself with the pride, not with the nine cubs that seemed to have fallen into my care..." He trailed off a bit awkwardly as he realized he was falling into old habits, his speech elongated and his breath falling short as he went on, "I...erm this is one of my daughters, Semine."

The small beauty of a cub looked up with wide brown eyes at her introduction, blinking to her father before looking back to the female. When the smile was shown in her direction, she took that as initiative and stepped forward just a bit.

"Hello Kiasi," With a soft bow of her head, she mimicked the smile and waited, wondering what would happen next between the two adults, eyes full and fascinated.

It didn’t take a lot to see the physical differences in his form after her introduction, at least not for someone used to sitting and studying pride members in detail. It aided in being able to judge others quickly and assess almost any situation properly , like her current one. Before she had shown that she was a pridelander native without any malicious intent, the poor consort had been stiffened up in an attempt to save his little cub from whatever harm she might cause. At least, that’s what she assumed - she had seen many others act this way but having never experienced the need herself, it was a little hard to tell. Regardless of his intention, he had now calmed down visibly and relaxed to the point of being friendly, which was always good when one was trying to avoid unnecessary confrontations.

“It’s perfectly alright, we all can’t expect you to know our names. After all, there’s quite a few of us, and you have those beautiful cubs of yours to attend to,” she said politely, though the bit about beautiful cubs was probably the furthest thought from the truth. Kiasi hated cubs.

“Semine, is it?” she said quietly, though audibly enough, gazing down at the little girl trotting so obediently at her father’s side. Well, from first glances, this one seemed to be alright. After all, she wasn’t as young as most of them, and she seemed to be very well behaved. As long as she didn’t start screaming or running around, Kiasi thought she’d be tolerable. “It’s very nice to meet you too, little princess.”

He chuckled a bit nervously, showing slightly his disagreement to her statement. At least, he felt as if it was his duty to at least know the pride, being with Kamilika and all. However, instead of voicing it, he merely just nodded obediently and watched what would happen as the female addressed his daughter.

As soon as she was addressed, her smile grew and she stepped further in front of her father, eyes wide and tail wagging, "Yes, it is. And it is very nice to meet you too, I usually don't get much of a chance to meet the adults of the pride."

Smiling at the thought, she glanced over the female and tried to remember her training, "I really like the marking on your forehead," It was a soft compliment, but none the less, she hoped it hit it's mark in her effort to be poliet, "Does it have any sort of meaning?"

With Ta’Ziyan not saying anything to her in return, her let her attention focus completely on the little cub. While she wasn’t particularly the best company for someone like Kiasi, the lioness knew enough not to be unkind to her. Besides, she was really trying to be a little nicer for the sake of Kubwa. If she couldn’t properly talked to a well behaved cub, how was she ever going to convince little Tete to like her? She had the feeling that Tete’s opinion would influence Kubwa’s feelings heavily.

“I can imagine, but you must be hard at learning a lot of things, right?” she said with a small smile, her tail flickering. Those deep blue eyes didn’t betray her impatience in the slightest, although she was admittedly a little more at ease talking to a cub like Semine than she was talking to a cub that acted more like one of her rowdy older brothers had when they were younger.

“The anchor?” she said with a little quirk of her eyebrow. She shrugged it off slowly, tilting her head to the side. “I’m really not sure, actually,” she said with another of those quick, flashing smiles, “but it comes from my dad, and he’s not from this pride. He may know what it means without having ever told me.” She chuckled softly, flickering her tail, “how about I ask him next time I see him, and I’ll tell you when I do?” Well, that was fairly nice. She was learning slowly.

Her eyes brightened in response, before she got a thoughtful look upon her features. Sure it was nice to hear the promise, but Semine always loved looking into things with her own imagination. Her mind started to click and clink in her process, and after a long moment she let out a final breath.

"Thank you, I can't wait to hear it's real meaning, but surly you have your own thoughts? It looks kinda like the moon, when it's thin...maybe it shows you came from the moon?" Giggling, her eyes glowed as she seemed to find herself a bit funny.

"But It is nice seeing such a beautiful marking...I hope I can grow up to look like you!" Ah, always the one to compliment her elders, but hey, it worked, so why would the little princess stop now.

Ta'Ziyan decided to intervene at that moment, and moved to brush his paw across his daughters side, "It is quite an interesting marking, isn't it Semine...but it might be better to wait, than make assumptions. Though I'm sure in the future, you'll find many more stories from those around you..." Looking towards Kiasi, he let out a warm smile in thanks, gland to see that she was getting along with the curious little cub.

Kiasi smiled softly as the cub spun her own thought on the marking, her eyes twinkling slightly as she watched her. She didn’t have much of an imagination – she preferred to keep her head out of the clouds and her thoughts on what was important – however, she was very aware of her own daydreams that she had had as a cub. Even the most rational and serious of lionesses always had at last one dream as a cub. It was a cub’s nature to believe in magic, to create stories, to just be creative in general. If the little girl had been hyper and perhaps a little annoying, she would have punted down her silly little idea. However she was calm and sweet, so what was the harm in amusing her for a little?

“I suppose it does look rather like a moon. Well, at least the bottom of it does, I don’t know what the top pieces would be then?” She laughed softly at her next words, shaking her head slowly in her mild mirth. The longer she stayed around the cub, the more she grew on her. Of course, Kiasi also ate compliments like candy, so that could have a great deal to do with her sudden kindness towards the little princess. “I’m sure that you’ll grow up to be a very beautiful young lady one day, Semine,” she nodded softly, turning her attention back to Ta’Ziyan.

“She can make up all the stories she likes, I suppose, since I’m not very aware of what it means myself. For all I know, my father may not know either,” she said with a small nod, half to go along with her answer, and half in reply to his thankfulness. “Perhaps if she finds my brothers or father within the pride, she can ask them as well. She seems keen on knowing what it means, they may be able to help her a little.” She glanced back down to Semine, her tail wavering behind her slowly. Sure, finding out what a symbol meant was not extremely important, but entertaining the little girl’s interests was a always a way of being nice.
