Okay, so I've finally built up some confidence and decided to post some art. It's not perfect, but I'm trying anyway. I've been working on this style all summer, I think I'm starting to get the handle of it. For a beginner, anyway. Before, I used to draw animals in a more cartoon style than this.

I drew this last night. It was originally supposed to be for a character I'm working on(he's a firestarter, which explains what is supposed to be a ball of flame he is holding). But now I think I just like the picture. It looks better in my sketchbook. Sorry about the smudges, I'm horrible for them. rolleyes

It looks really good for a begginer, the eyes are totaly awesome!

Tips: When I draw I use guidelines for everything, they give your drawing proportion and perspective. Just know I found a site where you can check out some guidilnes just go here! http://www.howtodrawmanga.com/tutorial.html

I hope your drawings become the best!

Is he starving? That was the first question that popped into my head when I saw that drawing.

No offense but he's really, really skinny.. And bony. He seems to be a kid but he has such a defined face it makes me think otherwise..

But for a beginner you're doing great.
(Maybe I shouldn't have seen Cherio's work before coming here..)

As an artist with, apparently, similar art style to yours, I have a few tips and pointers to make. Don't get me wrong though, it does look good.

Eyes, as Cheerio said, looks great. I don't think you need to work on those, except maybe to get them more round. Minor issue, don't let that bother you.

Your chin goes down too far. Could be the style you are aiming for though, but it looks very odd, like it is hanging down or something.

Your nose could probably use to be brought out a bit more, just to give it more shape and define it more agents the face. Once again, it does depend upon what exact style you are going for.

Neck, could be a little too thin, but I have seen necks that thin (or thinner) before in the manga/anime style. That is really just preference and how exact you are wanting your art to be.

Hair, great. Don't really need to work on that right now. Same with your ear, though that might be a little small. It is well shaped and maybe a little high as well. Just bring the lob down a little more.

As you probably found out, fire is very hard to draw. It is constantly changing, just like water.

Overall, a very nice piece. Keep it up! You will only get better over time! 3nodding

Thanks. Yeah, I had some trouble with the proportions, I'm trying to work on that. I just started taking an art class, hopefully it will help over time. sweatdrop

I personally found that (for me only) art classes actually just slowed me down. I learned best by looking at other people's art and copying their style, them making it my own. Also, practice is the only way to improve.

I'll have to see if I can 'fix' the things I mentioned to you about your art in Photoshop. I'll see if I can show you what I was talking about. You have the basics down really well, and your art is very nice.

Eh? My art class helped me learn how to color with differnt mediums (back then I was good) , draw more imaginative (hard to explain. Not like anime style.. Differnt style? Iunno.) , and finally got my porportions down.. But not for a human. Just everything else. XD

It all just depends on what type of art class you're in. In my school, our art class, which I didn't join, I joined a differnt art class, is really just an arts and craft class where you get to mess around with paper and glue stuff together with a strict teacher. -_-
The art class that I took teaches you basics for realism and still life first then you can start drawing whatever you may want. From still life, realism, people, landscape, and other things as well. And once you're good enough, you can start painting. But I didn't stay long enough to start painting. (But this class wasn't from school. This was from an academy I was in for a bit just so I spent my time on school stuff instead of games.)

And Tes, you sounded a bit.. Like.. Iunno. I want to say corny but can't, about the fire and water thingy. XD Okay, sorry! Back on topic. Fire is very hard to draw, so you may not want to draw it from one color to the next. You might want to start giving fire a flow to it, a bit like Hisoka's hair! So basically just practicing the basic outline of a fire then working on adding detail later. Once you're happy with it, start having fun coloring the many shades and colors of fire.

The art class just started maybe...a week and a half ago? We haven't really started a whole lot, but there seems to be a lot of drawing, working with symmetry, which I really need to work on. The decent hardcover sketchbooks will be there(the school ordered them) tomorrow, so I expect the teacher will have something sketch related planned.

In grade Nine, (I didn't join last year, I took Music class) the art class was all about trying new things, like gluing things together, etc. But the Grade Ten course isn't bad. The program is about going forward with what you already know, and about learning to critique properly, without saying things like, "Oh, I don't like this piece without an actual idea why I hate it."

Fire, I don't know what I was thinking actually. sweatdrop I added it in for some reason, to make it look like he wasn't just standing there.
