Does your school have solo competitions?
where you sing in front of a judge and get a score.
Our school does in the sping and it's called UIL but I was wondering how other places does it.

in show choir they have solo competitions. where a soloist is picked by the director of the choir and then during the show choir competition the soloist would go and sing a separate song somewhere else for different judges and they compete. or at least that is how i think it works. i'm not sure.

There were regional solo competitions that we were encouraged to attend with my high school choir. Supposedly we were required to enter at least one year in Chamber Singers, but I got out of it somehow...

We have no competitions in my college choir, which makes me happy. smile

We do that too, but our UIL is as a chior we sing and sightread. Our solo thingy is called Solo and Ensamble... and you can be in a solo or an ensemble. The music is ranked from hard(1), medium (2), and (3) easy. But thier are harder and easyer 1, 2, 3 s. I am doing a hard 1, last year I did a sortof hard 1 and made a 1. (!-5 is the grade, 1 best, 5 worst normaly people who know the notes adn rythems get a 3.) I qualifed to go to State solo and ensable but I didn't want to. I might this year if I make it.

Yeah, down her in the 863 we call it Solo & Ensemble for the district level. If you get a Superior at Solo & Ensemble, you get to go to State and be judge again on a tougher level.
We are allowed to choose two contrasting songs from any of the allowed songs books and then we perform in front of a judge. The ratings from lowest to highest are Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent, and Superior.
We do ours during the spring/end of the school year time too.
I really love Solo & Ensemble. It's hard, but rewarding since this past school year it was my first time going at the high school level and I made a Superior at districts and at State. And I was only a sophomore. The rest of the people who even made it to State for solos were all seniors.
