(UPDATE: Scroll down to my latest post to see my little review.)
This thread is for discussion of the upcoming DVD movie. smile
- It takes place in the new BSG universe. - The main story is a prequel to the Pegasus arc, and centers around Cain, Gina and an officer named Kendra Shaw. However, we also get to see Apollo's first mission as a battlestar commander. - We'll see a young Adama, as a Viper pilot. His segments will be aired on Sci-Fi during the commercial breaks of Flash Gordon episodes, and then edited into the full movie when the DVD is released. - We'll learn how Gina is first unmasked as a Cylon, and also about Cain and Gina's initial relationship. - The old-school Cylons will make an appearance.
If you have any thoughts, opinions, or information, I'd love to hear! biggrin

No idea, as I haven't seen it yet. ^_^; However, I imagine that it will require familiarity with the show, so it might be best to watch some of that first.

They'll be on Sci-Fi's Web site... as well as YouTube. wink
I've seen the first two. Pretty heavy stuff- we get introduced to young Adama's girlfriend, only to see her get mutilated by Cylons. sad No wonder Adama's gonna get some kills on his first mission.
The Viper uniforms are a cross between the original series uniforms (!!!) and what we have on the show now. I think I even saw people in the background flat-out wearing classic uniforms. Awesome.
Adama's Viper is a Mark II- the exact same one we saw in the pilot mini. There don't seem to be any Mark I (classic) Vipers, alas, though there have already been sightings of classic Raiders in promos for Razor. My guess is that we'll see them in the third little clip, since the second one ends with Adama ready to launch.
Whoever they got to play Adama is completely perfect. I'm just in utter awe. He looks kinda like Apollo, but sounds like Olmos, gravitas and all. Great casting.

HOLY FRAK. O_O Just saw Razor flashback number 3, and it's incredible. There were painfully few Viper scenes in season 3, but Ron looks to be making up for that, and then some. Watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQupz4WmExENotice the music cues based on the classic theme, the old-school Raiders, and the deliberate homages to old stock shots from the classic series. Notice also that William "Husker" Adama was one HELL of a Viper pilot. O_O Sad about the Columbia, though... (Also, it seems my early suspicions were correct- the flashbacks are sort of revisiting "The Gun on Ice Planet Zero" from the original series.)

Well, if you don't mind an emotional rollercoaster, I suggest getting into this series already! wink I can help you out with that, if you like! I suggest either starting with the pilot miniseries, or watching the first episode of the first season ("33") to decide if you like it and then going back to the mini.

I've seen it. I managed to *ahem* obtain an advance copy, if you catch my drift. ^_^;;
Note that the one I've seen is the version to be broadcast on TV on the 24th, not the one that will be on the DVD. The DVD version is supposedly about 20 minutes longer, and includes the footage from the flashbacks.
For the most part, it's a rather sad movie. Then again, seeing as how so much of it is about Cain and the atrocities she ordered, we pretty much knew it was gonna be that way. sad
As I said earlier, the plot centers around Kendra Shaw, an officer who came aboard Pegasus shortly before the Cylon attack on the colonies, and had firsthand involvement in some of the things Cain ended up doing. The main story takes place shortly before the end of season 2, after Apollo took command of Pegasus, and it's basically about Kendra's consuming guilt over the things she's done, her inspiration to become a better person, and her desire to redeem herself somehow.
As in the Pegasus arc in season 2, the contrast between Adama's crew and Cain's is pretty extreme- whereas we expect shades of gray from the Galactica folks, it's hard to think of Cain as anything but downright evil. At the same time, her reasons for becoming the cold-hearted b***h she did are understandable, though, obviously, I wouldn't call them justifiable.
Cain also serves to put Galactica's crew in perspective: while Cain threw away her humanity to survive, Adama's crew, horribly messed up as they are, struggle like hell to keep some measure of humanity. And we've seen it pay off in the third season, as many of them have been growing from disturbed, angry misfits into genuine heroes.
In Razor, Kendra Shaw takes that same journey.
She also discovers something that will change the face of the show forever, but I'm not gonna spoil it. ^_^;
So anyway, yes, it's a disturbing movie. It's highly gripping, though, and definitely good. I would only recommend watching it if you've watched at least the first two seasons of the series- otherwise, you're not going to know what the heck's going on.
And I gotta say, I dug the old-school Cylons. wink
