Genge padded silently around his families den, all alone. It made him nervous, having nobody there to protect him, but it was worse to go outside and have nobody to protect him. He finally got tired and sat down, letting out an irritated sigh. He understood that his parents had responsibilities to the pride, and that his siblings preferred to play outside when given the choice, but he still wished he had someone to talk to at least.
Finally, he decided to peek outside and see if there was anyone around to make sure he was safe, and hopefully not so bored. He slowly approached the entrance, carefully poking his head outside. "Is anyone out there?" He called feebly, quickly pulling his head back inside, as if he feared a larger predator would hear him and come looking for a quick snack.

Hidaya'Ua had been rolling a rock back and forth boredly outside the den's mouth. She was there, just to the left of the entrance. Surrounding her were doodles- her practice at her only form of decent communication. She was getting pretty good, though, most things just looked like scratches in the dirt without much of a good image.
At the sound of her brother's voice, Ua perked up. Genge, she liked him. He always had something fun to do- whether he realized it or not. She hopped to her feet and strode over. She mouthed the words, I'm here, Genge, but, as expected, no sound came out. She folded her ears back momentarily, but she just was dissatisfied with the results she'd been reaching in her speech.
She made her approach particularly noisy so she wouldn't scare her brother, since he probably didn't sense her.

Despite her efforts, Genge was indeed frightened by his sister's approach, but for the sudden noise rather than sudden appearance. It wasn't her fault, of course, Genge was just always jumpy. Once he saw her, however, he calmed down. His sister never seemed to speak, but maybe that's why he liked her so much. She was quiet, but fun at the same time.
"Hey there, Ua." He said with a feeble smile, "What'cha been up to?" He asked, glancing around. He barely noticed her drawings in the dirt, though he knew they were there.

Ua shrugged in response to her brother's question, meaning not much. Though, he doubted he'd understand it quite like she'd have said it. She lacked tone inflection because... well, she lacked a tone. The only sound Ua could make (Besides stomping about) was the sound of breathing, even if she was mouthing it. Her vocal cords remained, still, undeveloped.
Still, she padded happily up to her brother. He didn't seem to care that she couldn't talk yet. Nobody had caught on to her struggles yet- nobody yet understood why she wasn't talking. There were many theories that could go through lions' heads... Perhaps that was why nobody quite knew how to help her. It's not like she knew, but she couldn't tell them.
She pointed a claw at her brother and returned his question, mouthing the words "And you?"

Genge nodded, "Yeah, it's pretty boring when everyone is gone." He glanced around again, being so exposed still made him nervous, even if his sister was with him. He was smart enough to know that if something big came, even she, who was far stronger than he was, would not be able to protect him. As a result, he inched backward slowly until he was fully inside the den, letting out a sigh of relief.
"Me?" He asked, "Oh, the usual. I'm waiting for mom and dad to get home so that I don't get eaten by a hyena or something." He shuddered, though he didn't know why. Simply talking about being eaten didn't make him nervous, but for some reason the occasional shiver ran down his spine. "I was thinking about going to look for them but... I got scared. Again."

Ua chuckled as much as she could, which was only a visual cue. She smiled at her brother; he was such a chicken! Though, sometimes she thought he had good ideas on safety, he took it way too far, in her opinion.
She shook her head, hoping he'd get what she was saying when she scetched on the floor of the den a hyena, and then a den far far away, meaning that there weren't hyenas anywhere nearby. She looked up at her brother to see if he got it.

While Genge was usually quite good at interpreting her drawings, this time he was way off and panicked, "There's a hyena coming to our den?!" He jumped backwards, his rump up against the wall, "We have to tell mom and dad! They'll eat us all!"
He darted toward the edge of the den, but stopped immediately in the entrance, too frightened to take another step. "What are we going to do?" His face showed his obvious fear, as he looked at Ua pleadingly.

Ua knew he wouldn't get far, so she waited until he was only at the edge of the den. She walked over to her desperate-looking brother, chuckling as best she could. She mouthed the word "safe" hoping he could read her lips like mom and grandma could when the sentence was slow and small. Certainly he'd get one word. If not, she could always go slash out the hyena in her drawing... She was thinking one step ahead of her brother now.

"THIS IS NOT FUNNY!" Genge was getting frantic, waving one of his paws around feebly, "THERE'S A- Wait, what?" He paused, "Safe? How can we be safe if..." He frowned, "There is no hyena, is there?"
Genge now felt completely stupid. "Well what did you mean then?" He tried his best to keep the irritation out of his voice, trying to be understanding to the fact that Ua could not speak. "Is the hyena just in your imagination or something?"

Ua mouthed the words "No hyena" as soon as she could, hoping that he'd pick up on it. She looked about the den for some way to explain to her brother that there never was a hyena... She took her idea and walked back over to her dirt-sketch, slashing out the hyena in one smooth movement once Genge got over to her. She turned her black eyes to him hoping her brother got what she was saying. Life, thus far, was a combination of charades and pictionary. Sometimes it was fun, but most of the time it got annoying fast.

Genge huffed before flopping feebly on the floor of the den, relieved and at the same time frustrated with both his own fright and his inability to understand his dear sister Ua.
"Okay, I get that there is no hyena... Are you saying that there are no hyenas around here at all?" He asked, quite sure he had gotten it right this time.

Ua nodded vigorously to let him know he'd hit it right. She could sense some frustration behind her nervous brother... She knew her not-talking problem was the cause. She caused some trouble sometimes, just because people couldn't understand her right off the bat, or only got part of what she was saying... It was highly frustrating to the young lioness.
She decided, then, to lift the mood. She bounced up and tapped her brother on the shoulder, then bounced off playfully. Perhaps she could ease his mind.
