.:Jasmine's Profile:. (picture soon to come)
Name: Jasmine Callanthe Nickname: Jas, Jazz Age: 18 Profession: Wizard/witch, studying dragon nutrition Height: 5'4" Weight: 117lbs
Likes: Sunshine, clouds, blue skies, bubbles, making new types of dragon food, her dragons Dislikes: Being sad, when others are sad, messing up a recipe
Appearance: Jas is short, skinny, and is usually seen wearing jeans, a T-shirt or long sleeved shirt, and her goggles. These stay securely on the top of her head, and for some reason she never uses them during her experiments. On special occasions though, usually when she has to go out to town for things she puts on her glasses (she's near-sighted) and grabs her little black bag. She has light gray eyes and her straight chestnut hair curls a bit at the bottom, though her bangs have been permanently dyed a bright pink from an experiment that had failed. Now her bangs naturally grow bright pink.
Personality: She is one of the most bubbly, up-beat, happy-go-lucky people around. She has endless ways of amusing herself, and has a hard time remembering things simply because she hardly ever pays attention to things. When it comes to her work, however, she doesn't get distracted at all, and sometimes even forgets to eat. She never forgets to feed her dragons though, although that could be due to being bitten if she waits too long. She can get along with just about anyone, and frequently goes about town for the sole reason of making friends for herself or her dragons.
Background: She comes from a small, almost unheard of family a ways outside of Dorhaven. Neither parent were wizards, so it came as quite a shock to them when she began showing signs of magic abilities at the age of 12. They gathered up enough coins to ship her off to a proper wizarding school, and after she graduated (barely; she's not very good with magic still) she was presented with her first dragon. Seemingly ignoring all her magical training, she has set herself to specialize in dragon nutrition, creating different foods for them and selling such foods to other dragon owners. She makes it a habit to send any extra money back to her family to repay them for her education.
Magic: Jasmine's magical talents are.... To be quite blunt, terrible. She can perform the simplest of spells, lighting a candle, extinguishing said candle, but there isn't much else she can do. If she attempts anything harder than that, something will inevitably explode. It always does. Either that, or something ends up charred.
Profession: Jasmine excels at her particular area of study. As stated above, she studies the nutrition and the diet of dragons. Alongside that, she creates foods specifically made to promote good health in dragons. She also enjoys making these foods in flavors she thinks that dragons will like, but has yet to understand they would rather have the regular flavor, not something completely random like bubblegum or popcorn flavored food. She usually tries out her new flavors of dragon food on her dragons, and she's usually met with rejection while both dragons search out their normal-tasting food that she made. She also enjoys handing out free samples of her interesting flavors of dragon food when she takes Nekane and Alaia out for walks around town. She isn't too popular with dragons yet, though she may become so after she realizes most dragons don't like random flavors of food.

.:Notes:. - "Dragons are omnivorous and may have varied food preferences depending on the individual, although they require a high amount of N-acetyl-cysteine and in their diet, and it should be supplemented with sources docosahexaenoic [DHA] and eicosapentaenoic [EPA] acids on a semi-regular basis for general good health."
DHA and EPA are two of the three essential polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids. The third is Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). A fourth is stearidonic acid, but it must be biosynthesized from ALA by the delta-6 desaturase enzyme.
Docosahexaenoic Acid can be found in: - Microalgae (Crypthecodinium cohnii and Schizochytrium) - Fish oil - Fish that eat microalgae (prey fish) - - - Herring, sardine, menhaden - Predatory fish (fish that eat the fish that eat microalgae) - - - Mackerel, lake trout, albacore tuna, salmon, cod, bass - Seeds or oil of flax, hemp, and chia (Salvia hispanica and Salvia columbariae) - Soy oil - Walnuts - High protein foods
Eicosapentaenoic Acid can be found in: - Microalgae - Fish oil - Prey fish - - - Herring, sardine, menhaden - Predatory fish - - - Mackerel, lake trout, albacore tuna, salmon, cod, bass - Spirulina (dietary supplement produced from cyanobacteria) - - - Arthrospira platensis and Arthrospira maxima - High protein foods
- Important Notes - - Predatory fish have risk of accumulating toxic substances (biomagnification and bioaccumulation) - - - Mercury, dioxin, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB), chlordane - Prey fish have a much lower risk of containing toxic substances, therefore use of predatory fish should be limited
- Feeding Recommendations - As dragons are omnivores, they can eat meat as well as plants, seeds, berries, etc., and should be fed a variety of such foods so that they receive all necessary vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and the like.
For the more carnivorous dragon, large oceanic fish and all predatory fish (several listed above) should be fed sparingly, if at all. Predatory fish acquire toxic substances such as mercury and dioxin from eating other fish, which are harmful to dragons as well as humans. Therefore, prey fish meat and oils are safer (and sometimes cheaper~). On the topic of fish, if you feel the need to feed your dragon freshly cooked fish meat, fillets would be a better choice than steaks, as they can be made from smaller sized fish (also known as prey fish; what a coincidence!), and on that same subject, you wouldn't want your dragon to get chubby from too much fish, would you? I think not!
For the more herbivore-type dragons, you can still get the same essential chemicals, just with different foods. Soy, walnuts, flax seeds or oil, and a number of other things. If you want to get technical, fish oil doesn't have to be used for those dragons (or those few whose companions find meat distasteful and think their dragon should have the same ideas) who are, in the human sense, vegetarians or vegans. You can get the same chemicals and nutrients from microalgae and sirulina.
