get a lunch schedule (a calender with what they plan on serving every day) and then choose what looks good and on days that don't or that are extremely fattening take a sandwich.

I know what you mean about not wanting to always take a sandwhich. Here's what I've taken over the years Salad sad obvious but) Lettuce with my fav. veggies(ok the few I like) uh olives, mushrooms(can't really remeber) Pita!: This is so good, pita bread(whole wheat) with hummus and kalamata olives. It has an odd taste but its really good, plus you'll look mature for trying something kinda out there Sandwhiches: you know the kind, lunch meat with a lil mustard. kinda boring but what can you do?
This year I'm gonna mix it up, have it so I can switch my lunches throughout the week. I'll do sandwhiches but also a tortilla with black beans and lite cheese. It'll taste good and be a switch from my norm.
I'll also mix it up with red peper slices, freeze dried or normal dired fruit, regular fruit, maybe an avacado and if I want a treat healthy fruit wraps that are natural and 100 cal packs of lorna doone coockies. Of course I'ld never bring it all in one day.

More lunch solutions:
Lettuce wrap. Just like a wrap in a tortilla, but use big leafy lettuce instead.
Fresh fruit. Delicious, nutritious, low calorie.
Soup. There are some extremely healthy soups out there. Heat it up, stick it in a thermos bottle, and off you go. Some schools have a microwave where you can reheat it if it gets a bit cool.
Dinner leftovers, if they're healthy. Why do the work when your parent has already done it for you?
Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine, or Smart Ones frozen dinners, if your school has a microwave you can use.
Protein bars and a carton of milk. Protein bars aren't very filling, but they're very nutritious, and they don't smoosh easily in a backpack.
Homemade meringues. I posted the recipe in the Healthy Recipes thread of this guild. They taste like dessert, but nutritionally they're just egg whites, which is protein. Pack them in a hard container, because in a baggie they'll just get squished.
