Alright, I was rereading Vol. 6 when I came across Death Note: How to Read XXXV: How to Read XXXV -If a Death Note owner accidently misspells a name four times, that person will be free from being killed by the Death Note. However, if they intentionally misspell a name four times, the Death Note owner will die. -The person whose name was mispelled four times on purpose will not be free of death by the Death Note. In Vol. 1, when Light writes down the name of that "Shibutaku-whoever-he-was" guy, he writes it down more than four times by writing every possible way to spell the dude's name. Shouldn't Light have died then?

Yes, however, he wrote the name correctly the first time. And there is absolutely NO WAY to stop someone from dying once there name has been written.

Even tough he got the first one correct, if he didn't would he really die? It says there 'if they intentionally misspell a name four times, the Death Note owner will die', but he wasn't really misspelling intentionaly, he just didn't know how to write the guys name. I'm wondering if this would also count?

Well, he's randomly spelling the guy's name, knowing that some of the ways he spelled it are incorrect. I guess you could argue premeditation on misspelling the names, but I think what Light did would count.

the way I see it: in japan there is many different characters to write down the same name...and since Raito didn't have the shingami eyes... he wouldn't have known exactly what characters to write down... so by writing down each of the 7 way to spell Shibuimaru Takuo he was bound to hit it...also it wasn't misspelling the name... just different versions of it... the way they are talking about misspelling is: trying to write Shibuimaru Takuo and messing up a letter in the name like Shebuimaru Takuo or missing a letter like Shibumaru Takuo... so if Raito misspelled his name like that 4 times, that is when the rule comes into effect

You can't miss a letter of someone's name unless it's in Western alphabet. Seems like what Light did would count if he didn't get it in the first four... Otherwise, why would anyone "intentionally" misspell a name four times? Weird rule, though, since it wasn't used in the plot...
