Utada Hikaru, or Hikki, is one of the most influential J-pop artist in Japan. Having six #1 studio albums and many #1 singles that have hit the Oricon charts. She also has taken Kingdom Hearts themes by storm with her hits "Simple and Clean" [Planit B Remix], Hikari (Japanese Equivalent of Simple and Clean), Sanctuary, and Passion (the Japanese equivalent of Sanctuary).
Although, she is very successful in Japan, her career originally started in the States. Born in New York, Hikki started out with the name Cubic U. Her debut in the US was not successful and she went on to Japan when a producer heard her English single.
From then on, she created hits like "First Love" and "Sakura Drops" and began to write her own lyrics to her music.
Personally, Utada Hikaru was my first run-in with the J-pop genre. I think her life is absolutely wonderful and she is a person I really admire.
What do you guys think? What songs do you like from her albums?
