I am 17 and have been to my fair share of highschool parties. There is obvious underage drinking there, but most people who are there their parents know of their drinking.
At an aftergrad party I went to about 2 months ago, 2 cop cars went by the party but didn't stop they just moved through slowly. They knew there was underage drinkings, but didn't break up the party since there were about 300 people there.
What is your opinion on under age drinking? Should parents try and do more about underage drinking?

im an underage drinker, and my friend is currently piss drunk and talking to me right now.
I think its unfortunate that the drinking age is no longer 18, since one of the joys of being a teen was to turn 18 and party, and now since theres such a long wait, no one ******** waits haha
anyways. If I were a parent, I know I wouldn't be too happy if I caught my child drinking. I think that if I were somewhat aware, I wouldn't get too upset so long as my child doesn't get caught by me or anyone else.
but i think alcohol can be fun. I've seen people abuse it, I've heard awful stories, but for me and my friends, usually, alcohol helps us get over shitty times or boredom, and no ones ever done anything much stupider than make drunken calls (except chris, who passed out on us, but no one was cool with that).
so yeah

To be honest just last night I got extremely drunk , with about 4 of my friends . If I was a mother/parent and I would not want my child to drink like I just had or have in the past . If my child was drinking I would rather her drink with atleast just friends and not people they dont know and cant trust as I have done before .

The legal drinking age in Canada (or BC at least) is 19. So I've been able to drink for a few years.
I grew up with parents who told me never to drink, smoke, or do drugs. I had some alcohol with friends when I was in my teens, but I've never been drunk. I was one of the teens who wasn't popular in school, so I never got invited to parties, and I didn't see the appeal in drinking to the point of puking my guts out (I still don't).
When I have children one day, I will do my best to educate them about alcohol and what happens when you get really plastered. I will ask them not to drink until they are legal, but since I expect teens to be teens, I will do my best to monitor their behavior and whatnot.
So no, I don't think underage drinking is a good thing, but I think it's hard to prevent since it's so common in today's culture and today's society.

I think underage drinking is alright, as long as your responsible and know what your doing. I'm 17 and I've been to too many parties too count but I never go past my limit I always make sure friends get home safe and I always have an escape plan if things start to go south. Sadly not all teenagers are as concientious as I am... So I say if the parents can trust their kids to be intelligent then its alright.
