Ok i'm getting a lil' fed up.... I'm curently 35 weeks +1day and for the past week or more Insomnia has hit me like a brick..

The kind where I lie down and my throat will burn so much i'll vomit or have heartburn till I cry, now I've read they can be normal during pregnancy especially this late but the constant itching? No matter where I am i'm scratching away, i've actually bruised myself and caused bleeding from so much. The doctors claim its nothing more than hormones and perhaps an allergy which they aren't whilling to help me indentify...

My hands are swalllen to, I can't even wear my engagment ring anymore gonk

I was just wondering is this all really normal? my pregnancy is proceeding just fine baby wise, he's already 6.12 occurding to the last ante natal clinic I had (thursday) and my face/back look like i've just hit puberty >.<

I can cope with everything.... but the itching... le sigh... (the cravings for pure sugar are going to kill my teeth too rofl )

Are you having a rash or anything else with it?

Itchiness *is* normal, but excessive itchiness could be indicative of a not-so-common problem during prengancy--having a bit of a brain fart here, can't remember what it's called, I'm sure someone else will jump in and save me--that is unfortunately, untreatable.

Have you been applying lotion and perhaps trying oatmeal baths to ease the discomfort?

I'm having lots of baths trying plain water, bubble baths and sometimes oils, it normally eases it off long enough to get a few hours sleep.

The only rashes i've gotten are caused by the constant scratching in certain area's, mainly upper arms, top of the feet and knee's.

Doc's aren't too sure they figure its just hormones and an allergy that non of us can pin-point, but i;d really appreciate any pointers or tips peeps can give me to ease it off [:

SInce I've been pregnant, I've also had some itchy areas with no visible signs of rash. They come and go and aren't too severe. When they flare up, I just have to be careful not to scratch too much or they get allred and raised (obviously!) I know that's really not much help, but at least you know someone else has mysterious itchiness with pregnancy.

On the issue of reflux/heartburn, I had that BAD with my second pregnancy. The godsend was Zantac for me. It wasn't a magic cureall, but I could tell a BIG difference if I didn't take it. My OB told me I didn't have to suffer through it as much, and I looked up on safefetus.com.

I know increased itchiness can be caused by the increase of estrogen. I think it's PUPPP Dirge was talking about. It is harmelss (although annoying as hell), but there's a rare form. More info Here.

The swelling is normal, as long as you don't have BP problems too. I wore my rings on a necklace. I drank alot of water, but it took even a few weeks after birth to get rid of it.

Hang in there hon.

I had really bad reflux from very early in my pregnancy. I had it the worst actually when I was in labor! So if you've got it bad, make sure they have something nearby just in case you need to vomit.

xd

My hands only got swollen near the end, couldn't wear my wedding ring anymore. Because I felt almost unfaithful without it, I wore it on a bracelet or a necklace.

I remember the itching and no sleep... during the last 2 months of pregnancy with my daughter it was non stop itching, and I too, itched till I bled...
I have heard cocoa butter helps and vitamin E, I have been moisturizing with both & am really hoping that it makes a difference this time around! stressed

DUH, I completely forgot to mention that I had that rash that Pirate Dirge was mentioning earlier in the thread(I can't remember the name of it either) and that my OB prescribed a cortisone cream for it that only made it worse... I wish I could tell you the name of the cream, but I can't remember it right now for the life of me... I do know though that it was one of the mildest creams he could prescribe as they try to avoid giving you that when you're pregnant cuz it has steriods in it confused

I'm only a few weeks along but I've already started the iching. I use Tummy Hunny butter it's a bit pricey but it works wonders.

Thanks for all the feedback peeps! It's really helped to know I'm not alone [:

I've been this itchy for a good 7 weeks now, and they're finally testing for diabetes and some rare thing that means they have to monitor the babies movements a lot... I've got a day center tomorrow to do lots more tests, it's so strange o=

Hopefully it won't matter for too long as of Thursday my baby boy weights 8.2lbs and I'm only 37 weeks tomorrow rofl I was never really scared of labor before but now.... nya <.< It's all getting a bit too much and I just want him out and in my arms, Then all the problems will go away and I can for fill certain cravings rofl

I hope that you don't have anything serious and that it's something manageable.
You're almost there and once the baby is out the itching should start going away almost instantly, it did for me.
Labour can be pretty freaky to think about, I still have 9 weeks to go and I am already nervous, but when it's happening all you can think about is that you will have your baby soon & be done with pregnancy(which has by now probably started wearing on your nerves!).
You'll do great smile

I know it's a bit late and everything, but whatever you do do NOT use hydrocrotizone cream! It actually thins the skin and makes it worse.

My daughter has exzema, I forget how to spell it, but if the itching is anything similar to it don't over bathe, don't use very sented lotions or frabric softners or perfumes.

I'm not sure if you have this there but try something called "Dermal Therapy". It's actually for really cracked heels, but because of how moisturizing it is, and no fragrence it's helped her stop itching.

I wish I could help with your other problems but my heartburn wasn't as bad as yours sounds, and I didn't have a problem with swelling.

Good luck!

I have been itching a lot lately too, although i am only 25 weeks, but it also just started. I try not to itch even though it does itch. Yet for the insomnia i don't really have that. By the time i wake up it's morning because my leg fell asleep from having to lay on my side.
