Tearh and Ghilt were finally getting older, their paws were getting bigger, their legs getting longer, and they were finally able to leave their mother and father's side and venture out on their own! Of course, they had to stay together they were family, they were blood, they were going to be the one's who would lead mommy and daddy home!
Romping around on the stream bed, dipping their paws into the cool crisp water and watching the pebbles beneath the clear moving surface, both pups seemed to be mesmerized, Ghilt seemingly blind eyes, like those of his father watched tiny tadpoles dart back and forth...such tiny things, he would rue over them!
Tearh watched them too, watched them then remembered the strange wolf mommy had met and made mommy seem angry or upset, strange other wolf, her name was Twist or something, but Twist didn't have the special mark that her mommy and she had, no sir ree!
They were just two pups, wanting a bit of fun.

Quintus had grown, filling out over the summer into a much more adult shape. Nevertheless, he was still slight. Wiry, skinny-legged but small for an adult wolf, with a shape which would have been more at home in warmer climes. He had come to these shores barely a year earlier and as this second winter was coming in his coat was beginning to respond to the rougher temperature of his new homeland.
He scratched an itch idly as he walked, wobbling on three legs, the loose fur of summer was coming off in patches and irritating the hell out of him. Usually Quintus was much more composed but the irritant had brought out his churlish side. It was that which had sent him out of the way of the rest of the Outriders pack - when he was ever the slightest irritated he took himself away from others so as not to bother them, to make himself seem less controlled in their eyes. They had given him so much and he didn't want to return it with petulance over a bit of loose fur.
It was in this state that he came across the pups. He was pretty sure they were of the pack, or at least related to someone within it. He wasn't so good at making friends amongst the others but he had a pretty good memory for markings and was sure those black and red patterns were something he remembered on a female.
"You two supposed to be on your own out here?" he asked with a little concern.

Tearh moved and ran around her brother in circles, tripping now and again toppling over, laughing, then getting up once more. Ghilt followed, as if a game, though both excited pups froze, stood still and stared at the massive wolf near them.
Where had he come from?
"Who're you? Tearh peeped, padding over to him, trying to take a good loko at his face, he had a nifty marking by his eye, though not as cool as hers were of course, she had hte best markings, she had her mommy's marking after all!
"Ya! Huh?" Ghilt said with a jeer, pawing at the strangers leg, smirking all the while, tail swaying behind him to coax his balance, Ghilt appeared blind, though by his movements it was obvious that he was not.
