Welcome! Here you can read about the requirements for growing and apply to have your Fa'e advance to the next stage, as well as read about pregnancy/reproduction requirements and the process of co-Guardianship. In short, anything applying to ownership of Fa'e can be found here.

Yes, Fa'e can have children... however, it is a very important decision as it deeply affects your Fa'e's in-character life and development.

You see, when a Fa'e reproduces, they give of their own magic and blood to create the new Fa'e. A normal reproduction involves two Fa'e, and the baby Fa'e receives half of each parent's power, and takes on physical attributes as a mix of both parents - that those parents then physically lose. So if your Fa'e has wings and then has a child, the wings may pass to the child - at which point your Fa'e will lose their own wings. So having a child will change your Fa'e's appearance.

In addition, having a child will change your Fa'e's powers and magic. Since half of it passes into the child, their ability for magic and to use whatever power they posses will also drop by half. This MUST be reflected in roleplay! Fa'e who are half-human will, in addition, have a more difficult time attaining Ancient stage, and will have a higher rate of failing to ascend to Ancient when that time comes.

A Fa'e couple can have a maximum of two children, and if they do choose to have the maximum then they will become completely human as all of their magic will have been divided between those two new Fa'e babies. Fa'e who have become fully human CANNOT attain the Ancient stage. Ever. That path is closed to them. They will of course still remember who they were in their past life, but all the magical/enhanced abilities and power they once had will be gone.

Because of these IC consequences it's very important to think very, very hard before deciding to have children.

Expectant Fa'e couples are required to choose Guardians for their children before they are born - a child will NOT be born until it has a Guardian to take care of it! We ask that Fa'e couples hold off on asking the Guardian-to-be, however, until they have received permission from Fa'e HQ to have a child and have also done the roleplay that will result in the child's conception. This is to avoid hurt feelings and confusion in the case of plans falling apart or delays stretching on long after a Fa'e has already been promised to someone.

Also, for expecting Fa'e and their new Guardians - just because the parents have to give their baby to another Guardian doesn't mean that they should stop interacting with each other. Parents should interact with their own children! If they do not, the estrangement should be roleplayed, too.

Requirements for Fa'e pregnancy and reproduction are in the next post.

In some cases, special circumstances will be allowed for Fa'e reproduction, such as a single Fa'e giving all their power to bring a baby into the world, or a single member of a couple donating their own power so that their partner does not have to give any. Sometimes Fa'e can even reproduce without intending it by strange devices of power. These situations must be discussed prior to the pregnancy with the staff, however, and there must be a strong justification for it carrying on in the way it does!

Also note that if you want your Fa'e to have children but don't want those children to be Fa'e, we have an arrangement with the GMFC. Fa'e couples may have children via the GMFC that will be completely human, not Fa'e. That means a relatively normal appearance, and no innate magical powers. But they would still be genetically the child of the two Fa'e. All Fa'e wishing to reproduce via the GMFC must first get a GMFC appointment. This is the responsibility of the Guardians involved; unfortunately, Fa'e HQ cannot help in securing GMFC appointments for Fa'e.

The cost for having Fa'e children from this point (December 2005) forward is 75k per child. 3nodding

In addition, there is a cost exacted in IC consequences and in roleplay. Fa'e children can't be born in a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am type way... the relationships leading up to pregnancy must be roleplayed intensely. Even if the baby is, ICly, an accident instead of a conscious choice, there still must be significant roleplay leading up to and surrounding the pregnancy. (Obviously we don't mean RPing sex, though. That's against the Gaia TOS.)

There is also an age requirement: in a Fa'e pairing, all Fa'e must be at teen stage or higher... and ONE of the members of the pairing must be youth stage or higher. So teen/teen is not okay, but teen/youth is, and so on. 3nodding

If two Guardians have decided that they want their Fa'e to have a child, please write a request together and send it to the FAE HQ mule. Please include the plot behind the planned conception, when you would like to run this plot, and who the future Guardian of the child will be (if you've decided). We will work with you to coordinate and approve this important decision, as well as to decide what features each parent will contribute towards the child.

Keep in mind that the length of a Fa'e pregnancy is entirely dependent on Anya's time, and on the roleplay activity of both parents. There's no nine-month rule among the Fa'e - like their growth, time is not as much the factor in progression as development. So if your Fa'e gets pregnant and you vanish, guess what? No baby's going to pop out of your prone Fa'e. Roleplay, roleplay, roleplay! ^^

If you are offered a second-generation Fa'e:

Congratulations! smile Please forward the PM (or other communication) from the Guardians of the expecting Fa'e to the FAE HQ account so we can confirm your future Guardianship. After that, it is time to plan out your new Fa'e!

Your Fa'e's physical appearance will be based on the attributes of the parents, and cannot be chosen - naturally, as your Fa'e grows their appearance may shift slightly to align with the Fa'e's spirit, but they will always take their basic looks from their parents.

Their myth, however, is up to you! The legend you base your Fa'e on need not be connected to the cultures of the parents - in fact, it's more interesting if it's completely different, since variety is the spice of life. wink

All myths and concepts need to be approved first, but as long as it is a real legend/myth/bit of folktale/etc, and not something that overlaps current Fa'e myth, there shouldn't be too much of a problem. All new Guardians-to-be via 2nd generation will work out their concept in concert with the GMs to ensure there aren't any problems. smile
