Trigger Happy Xigbar WeLiveIt Trigger Happy Xigbar WeLiveIt Well, If I was in Lily's position I would have forgiven him...
eventually 3nodding But I do understand where you all are coming from
gryfindors are proud and I doubt she would have, or should have, just taken what snape said and forgiven it right away
and snape probably had changed, though his memories really don't let us see much of that
But that all makes his character so human
and it makes me sad to think that JKR didn't even like the character she made the most complex!!! crying Yes! I'm glad you understand my point, not that others didn't after some time. Though i said that before anyway xd
But it does bare repeating.
And I loved the idea of Snape being romantically involved - ish - with someone in the canon. I was so HAPPEH!
Even before anything was even heavily foreshadowed in the novels I thought Snape was the most human.
In the 3rd book especially.
And I do agree with Sapphira Silver, but Lily is, as I have and others said before, very proud. And Snape and co. wasn't just calling her a mudblood. She stood by her decision to stop talking to him, I believe, because it was not just her who they were hurting, but all muggle-borns.
And I never really liked James either biggrin I always figured he couldn't have been as great as the wizarding world thought he was. I also think Snape is a better person.
I'm done now? sweatdrop one question because I'm viciously stupid on some things. When people say Canon what do they mean?! all the people that read harry potter around me, and we are all deeply into it, but we don't use that term and it drives me crazy because i don't know what it means! Canon means the text/story that is actually from the book, that JKR wrote. Not just used for Harry Potter but can be used for any novel or book, I heard my teacher use it and it kinda freaked me out. I never heard it being used for anything else! biggrin "Fanon", I know you didn't ask what this is but just in case you hear it, is a slang term (probably originated from online HP topics, I'm not sure) is the text/story that fans make up. Such as fan fiction.
So, a re-cap, because it is very confusing:
Canon = The original story the author wrote
"Fanon" = fan fiction
I hoped that helped whee

Trigger Happy Xigbar In my opinion, Lily was alright - smart, pretty and talented - but if I were Lily I would have given Severus at least a chance to redeem himself. She didn't even give him a chance. She didn't even try to understand that he was embaressed and furious at James and company, and that he accidently lashed out at her, and that he whole-heartedly didn't mean what he said. True it would probably changed the character of the Severus that we love but he still deserved the chance. I totally agree! He apologized right? Maybe she just wanted to get rid of him sweatdrop

The Mudblood incident I'm sure was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Surely there were other incidents, maybe not having to do with her, but still. This incident probably showed her that his obsession with the Dark Arts was seeming into their friendship. She even might have felt a bit betrayed. But I'm sure before she died she forgave Severus, even if she never got a chance to tell him.

I for one never believed their friendship to be that strong, at least not from Lily's perspective. If they were supposed to have been such great friends why didn't Remus or Sirius say anything to Harry about it? By the events in Snapes Worst Memory i think Lily just stopped caring. She had her own group of friends and was probably more than willing to drop him at the first slight against her. Yeah I know Severus can be a bully and a jerk but you don't really see that side of him until he is much older. You may say "but he laughed at what happened to Mary!" Yeah...ok...and what about other students who laughed at him when James bullied him? Why aren't we judging them so quickly? The point I'm trying to make is that, Lily, though at the receiving end of a truly horrible comment, should have taken the time in later months or years to try and make a connection with her "best friend" if she truly saw him as that.
Should she have given him the second chance? No, because she wouldn't have meant it. She would have probably done it more out of pity than actual friendship.

I really wish that lily had given him another chance, but i think that it was just that ever since they started school at Hogwarts all the odds were against them staying friends, they were sorted into rival houses and he started hanging out with people who wanted to be death eaters because they were the only ones who were nice to him, and she didnt like the fact that he was into the dark arts so it probably caused a lot of tension for her up until the point he called her a mudblood and by then that was the last straw for her.

I think lily should have given snape a second chance. If she was really his friend, she would give him a second chance.

If I were Lily I'd probably give him a second chance though not right away. He'd have to redeem himself someway, I think Lily would have forgiven him if he had chosen a better group of friends other than potential future death eaters. I think she may have been a little afraid of the people he hung around with from Slytherin. At least very disliked.
Though I do agree with SeverusSupporter there could have been small things that happened between them before her called her a mudblood. I do think though... it takes more bravery to forgive someone to hold a grudge. Gryffindors main characteristic is supposed to be that along with loyalty. Then again you have people like Wormtail in that house and how he was sorted into it Merlin only knows. It would take a lot of Courage and Loyalty to forgive and continue to be friends with each other, even more so since they were in rival houses. Maybe she did forgive him over time but maybe by the time she did, Snape was too far into the Dark Arts and the Death Eaters for her to wish to attempt to be friends again? Though I also think that Lily wishing friendship between them again may have been his saving grace. Ne?
