I started out playing the game about two weeks ago, I don't even remember why I bought the game. I was in gamestop, looking through the PC games. I was looking at the Morrowind box, then When I set it back, I hear something drop to the floor. I look down and it;s the Final Fantasy XI: Vana'diel Collection 2007. I pick it up, look at the shiny casing and instantly thought it looked awesome. I brought it to the counter and they gave me a funny look. I asked them what was wrong when they looked at me and they said they didn't have a single copy left, and then they asked me. "Are you sure you wouldn't play this instead?" And they handed me a world of warcraft box. They all kinda got angry with me when I said "Ew, get that Sh*t away from me" ^^;
So, it was kinda weird that I found a copy they said they had sold. Weird eh?
So, I installed the game and made my playonline account, Eiphes of course. [You can add me if you want biggrin ] I've become quite popular on the POL chats, and have made many friends on Asura Server.I'm currently an 18 mnk hume, on my way back to Selbina to unlock subjobs biggrin
I'm planning on going SAM/THF and SAM/WAR <3 I hope to see Gaians on the Asura Server! /tell Eiphes
Add me on POL!

So, discuss-

They actually told you that there aren't anymore copies of FFXI and told you to play WoW instead >.> and when you say ewww they sold you a copy of FFXI. Seriously what has happen to America or something ; ;, at least you would think all they want to do is make sure to sell games, but to suggest to buy another game eek (lol and i am American >.>)

But anyways gratz^^ When I first played i love exploring :p, right now i don't have the money to play since my bro stop playing ; ; if his friends aren't playing and paying for my bro's account and it gets erase i might end up just making a new char ; ;. might need to choose wisely though lol. (RIP my tarutaru crying hopefully not though)

WoW is sooo over-rated <.<

I started playing like, over a year ago, close to two lol. I really didn't get into it over something magical such as the game falling down x3, one of my friends played it so I got it. Coincidentally he quit shortly before I got it and I was on a completly different server, lol.

The only reason I can think that they would have tried to sell you WoW because WoW is growing in popularity and is probably the reason for the shrinkage on the servers. There were more than 2000 people on my server a year ago. Now there is only 2000 and only a few of my friends are online crying
But it was right for a store to lie to you and try to change your mind when you wanted to buy FF XI, which is wrong.

Funny thing is that I work at a Gamestop and the store is rather divided between WoW players (around 4) and FFXI players (me). But we're cool about it, we always have our little "FFXI is better than WoW because..." battles, but it's all out of fun. As far as customers go, we both get turns at telling them about each game. Thankfully, though, I've been winning. ^_^

Anyway, I bought my game around 4 or 5 years ago on the PS2 release. I remember installing, making my char, and choosing my all-time favorite char class of Red Mage. I remember meeting up with a "high level" (she was like Whm22 I think) and she helped me with my first two or four levels. Meh, those were some good times back then. Seeing people in RDM af for the first time and all that, it was just something so awe inspiring.

Damn I feel old now. Back when we all began FF, we seen the high levels in simply just AF and thought it was the coolest thing in the world, ya know? Now looking back, it seems so odd. But that's the nature of a MMO, right? Whether it be WoW or XI, ya grow, get better, and have the little guys look up to you, which is why we set the example of how a server community member is supposed to act, right? 3nodding

Getting back to the main post, meh, it WAS pretty crappy for them to deny the customer the right to actually choose what they wanted. Eh, to be honest WoW is just a simpler game for simpler minds. Not BAD persay, but it's just "I can solo my a** to cap, I can solo pretty much the whole game." FFXI is based on what the advertisement upon release stated. "Story. Legends. Romance. Community." and a few others that I can't recall. The main one there...

Community. The point is to communicate and do things with others. That's just the difference. Did I derail a bit? >.>;;

You should have said, "I'd like to take a look at that" taken the box and socked them in the head with it.

jk I actually didn't know the FFXI nazis vs. the WoW nazis was a real thing. At least not to this pathetic point. Sigh.

But anyway I started out when my brother gave the game to me on my 18th birthday so it's been 3 years since then. I liked the game a lot better when I and many of the other American players were new and everything wasn't about rushing the next job to 75 strictly just for endgame activities. There wasn't as many whining of 'being stuck in the dunes/jungle' and power leveling because people actually liked taking their time to level and make friends who were also new to the game. And people were tolerant to subjobs and just jobs in general. I heard that smn/blm used to exist and of course there are the dragoons.

Although from what I hear you already have a lot of friends and really like it so far. Welcome to Vana'diel and I hope you will like it there for at least a couple of more years to come.

^^ SMN/BLM did used to exist lol but people want a SMN that can help heal nowadays, DRG is a fun job... but now since they killed penta trust not as many people invite them now(but like I said extremely fun).

As for the Dunes/Jungle that was so true, when I started I was like taking forever to really get to level, but I didn't mind at all(was exploring a bit too much :p), but now it is like why am I still in the dunes ; ; "I need to get out of here" etc etc. It would be a lot better if there were more people at Valkurm though(thats the main reason I don't exactly like it). It is hard to start a PT now because there isn't as much people, but I still laugh about the bogy that spawns around there though.

I also missed the Tahrongi leveling area ; ; it just seems like everybody just go to the dunes to level now. I mean the first time I was playing FFXI I used to form pt's at Tahrongi canyon and at Shakrami, but now it feels like it is almost non existant since everybody would want to go to Valkurm instead. Tahrongi Canyon was also where I met my first FFXI friends (*Cries for Duneraider and Legault*)
