Just a straight, acrylic portrait for you guys, make of it what you will...

Here's a few WIP shots;

Still having a few "issues" with her jaw.
I get it so that it almost looks alright and then I stare at it for 5 minutes and it looks totally wrong again.
Planning to make her chin look rounder, the shading is a bit harsh I think, and take a few millimetres off the right side of her jaw.

Also her dreads need more work, although I quite like the texture of the ones I have put in on the left of the picture, thoughts?

I think the thing with her jaw isn't really with her jaw, but it's with her neck because it's so far over. Does that make sense? It's too far separated from her jawbone.

Also, using a reference like that will make it hard to get good colors, if it's at all as gray as it looks in the picture.

My colours are nothing like the colours on the screen. She has much fairer skin than I have given her really, I've used alot of yellows and oranges which there was only a hint of in the picture. I like to do that though, I tend to pull out colours that interest me and run with them. I was especially proud to get some purple in there around the dark side of her face, because I think it works really well, it could probably stand more purple actually.

Do you have any methods for getting good references? I find it really hard to find high-quality pictures of portraits.

I'll try and sort the neck, and the shoulders maybe need a bit of a tweak too now I look at it.

I'm a little concerned about my camera, it seems to blur often. I don't know whether I'm just getting tremours or I hurt it by dropping or have inadvertantly screwed something up in my tinkering with the settings, hmm.

I also did this little thing last night, which is a moon hare, partially influenced by Okami- amazing game! Just a quick thing really, to amuse me.

I don't think I chose the best pose for him but I might change it a wee bit later.. not sure about all the empty space either you see, there is a reason I call myself fickle!

You could try putting clouds in that empty space, I LOVE clouds. I have tons of clouds that I took pictures of if you need any refs for that.

Yeah, the pose for him does look kinda funky. I think it's more like his back legs look really stiff that makes it off.

And just an added extra suggestion, try having something like a different color reflecting off from the ground. He seems like a magical creature (I'm assuming) So it would be pretty cool if there was some sort of magical light fluttering from underneath.

As for refs? I just recently bought this book called 'people and poses' for comic book artists. It has a s**t load of poses, close ups, and fighting poses with props.
It came with a CD and I put the pics in a zip, then uploaded it on fileden.
8D I put the link in 'fagtools' thread.

Wow, that sounds brilliant, thanks.

I've been looking at this bunny here and I've realised I've done the legs wrong- both the left ones on our side are up and the other side down- it's not a jump; it's a goose-step.

xd

That can be fixed easily though.

Clouds you say? Hmm.. and what about a pond maybe? I thought a nice reflected moon would be good.

A pond? That would be lovely, that and lily pads in it too. Maybe even a small little weeping willow next to it, who knows. x3
