Now, I am not sure if such a topic has been made before (I do assume so but I didnt have the time to look through everything here yet, so I won't be surprised.) but being quite new to the game I have been wondering just how people make money on their early days?
Sure, I've been selling Crystals and it goes -okay- but it's far from keeping me uptodate with armor and such.
I've had a friend help me with some equips, but I do not want to simply depend on others with this...
My current trouble is, I'm level 23, nearing 30 and I would just love to become a Puppetmaster, but knowing that it's probably best to buy all NPC Attachements at the start and reading that they sum up to over 100k plus two or so from AH.... well.... I'm scared that I really wont be able to even get close to being able to afford it.
I've wondered if there is maybe any certain crafting and such that would bring profits for starters or weak NMs one could try.
It doesnt have to make tons of Gil a day, but maybe just enough to make a living?
...in short:

Any Gil-making strategies (for new players) you could share with a newbie? @_@

I make a lot of my gil from Moat Carp, a stack sells for 3K. I also go slaying bees for Bee Hive Chips and Honey (I think both are 5k a stack). Crawlers drop Silk Thread that's 10k a stack.

Note: I'm in Caitsith Server and all of these can be done near Windurst ^^

Fishing is a nice way to gain gil, and once your fishing hits around 20+ or so is when you start getting a little bit more, the problem with fishing is that it takes a lot of time ^^.

As for crafting.. something short term like that won't really yield results >.< and most don't even allow you to gain a good amount of profit until like level 50+ in that craft. But cooking is the least costly craft there is, it is also a money saver ^^ (at level 30 cooking you get to make paste which is good for fishing moat carp :p)

Mining, although some area requires high levels to actually be able to mine.... i forgot but it was near ghelsba outpost, there is a mining area that if your lucky you can get ores and such at around 9k or so or more depending on your server. and buying the pickaxes aren't hard also because if the AH is selling it for less then the npc at south sandy then you could buy it from the AH.

Thanks for the tips... I checked up the prices and on Lakshmi it's Silk Thread 9k, Honey/Beehive Chip 3k and Moat carps at 2k a stack.
I'll definetly try and level up some more lower level characters around Windurst to get some of those items as well as asking looking into the whole Mining thing...

Again, thank you ^^

Ohh yea after looking through allakhazam I found it was yughott grotto ^^, depending on your current job you can mine there at 30 because as a blm back then in my early years i often mined there^^ without too much difficulty. But if your currently a mage class(assuming a white mage or red mage) it is possible to also mine at gusgen mine(somewhat dangerous... just need sneak most of the time... kind of freaky too because there are ghost around that area even if it is a game they just pop out of nowhere >.<) you need to run around quite fast though and learn the mining area because believe me there can be a lot of people mining there sometimes, but like i said each ore has a different cost, i mean you can mine and end up getting lots of gil or sometimes the next mining you get a little less.

Fishing isn't that great on my server. I have fishing as a craft and gave up. I seem I can't raise it up and catch as single fish. I can fish for two hours and I will get nothing and I can't even get the skill level up. I would stick with crystals and farming for silk thread from Crawlers. When become a higher level like around 50. You can farm beastmen blood from thread leaches in Pashow Marshlands. It sells 22k a stack in the AH on the server I am on.

I was reading over the posts shown here, and I remember being in your same position. I have clothcraft at 83 so making gil isn't too difficult, but I'll give you some tips that I use/used to make gil quick when I seriously needed it.

Look for bargains in the AH and sell higher. Another option is to sell your crystals in singles instead of in stacks. Wind and Earth stacks go for 800-1000 (averaging out at 700) on my server (Fenrir), but singles go for 500-800. What does this mean? It means that people sometimes need singles, either for single crafts or for surplus (I've had to buy singles before, so I know this). So you have seven slots to sell from, 7x700 is 4900. Now, please note that you'll need to be patient with this method since sometimes it may take a while for people to buy your crystals (1-2 real time days). In the time it takes to farm a single stack, you could sell about 8400 worth of crystals.

Another, which is a far off option for you, is doing teleports. Depending on server economy, teleports can run between 500-2000 gil a shot.

Once you're in the hundred thousands, seek out crazy bargains. If you see someone selling a Hauby for 300k, pick it up right that instant, drop it off at the AH, and make your 50k-250k profit. This is especially profitable with people who are leaving the game. If you see any shouts for people leaving the game and selling all their stuff, don't think twice. Pick up those items immediately.

Sell your old equipment. You might have tons of old equipment that you don't need any more. Rings, necklaces, and other things you bought but don't ever equip can get you a quick jump on gil.

Yagudos, Orcs, Goblins, Quadavs. What do these all have in common? Gil drops. Go out of your way and just have a ball at one of the low level areas picking up gil from first tier gil-dropping beastmen.

On the topic of Yagudo, you can also pave the way to low level financial freedom by killing Yagudo in Gideus for both Wind Crystals and Yagudo Bead Necklaces. You can then do one of two things. Sell the necklaces off directly for 800 gil each or you can use them to start crafting. One Wind Crystal and one Necklace can yield a minimum of 3 Grass Thread Spools.

And don't forget, www.ffxiah.com is your friend. You can use this as an invaluable resource and seeking out what is making gil on the AH and what isn't.

I hope this info helps you out. Don't be afraid of dropping me a PM if you have any further questions. ^_^
