Yes, it was rather prying, but for someone as who displayed as much malice as he did, it was put in an insanely polite manner. Almost too much so.
"Crusader of the good?" she about died from laughter right then. Good her a**. She wasn't about to stick her neck out for a bunch of people that didn't deserve it. Hell, half of them came crawling, and she waved them off in dismissal. No, there had to be mutual respect there, and it had to be earned.
"No. Their stallion has a death sentence on his daughter. Normally I wouldn't get involved, but this mare has wits, and she needs to live." Dying from the mobs was not a fair way for any to go. She'd managed to escape them, for all it was worth, but she was never soley hunted, and not necessarily for her head.

Fawkes paused, ears laying themselves flat back against his skull. He knew he hadn't said that aloud. That meant she could read his mind, which meant she probably had been all along. Well s**t, why couldn't seers have some kind of outward tell? Probably because it would make his stars damned life a trifle easier.
"I see," he said coolly, pacing back a step and sizing the mare up. No, he wouldn't win a fight with her, he'd come back to adulthood too recently to be especially strong. She hadn’t made any aggressive moves yet in any case, perhaps that would continue to be the case. "So, useful is it?" he asked after a moment, ears still back. "Being able to read minds that is, not that you needed me to clarify." Perhaps this was how she would best the Reya, see their plans and move against them knowing what to expect in the way of tactics.
Why the hell did this Reya girl 'need' to live come to that? She'd die soon anyway... But then other people didn't share his perspective on that score, he supposed, how could they? When placed by his side they were mere children and gone from the world in the blink of an eye; each passing year meant more to them than it did to him. Still, going up against a herd that could take on the Katilenuck for the sake of one girl seemed a bit loopy no matter what your perspective was.

Storm laughed, and shook her head.
"So defensive is the one who lives a long life to take them," she spoked softly, a small grin on her lips. He felt threatened, and the change in attitude was violent and innane.
"Interest turns to scorn in the blink of an eye, yet the true motive never changed. So, useful is it? Burning and healing?"
She'd given him enough, and found him nearly what she'd thought him to be. For unlike him, her like was merely practiced, to understand if she truly liked him or not. To use the seers power, one must have a brain and a reason to use it.
She only had one.
With no sound, she walked past the bush and out into the night.

Fawkes gave a disgusted snort, not gracing the mare's words with a response. Turning in the opposite direction the Ichsa strode off, small sparks snapping off his coat at intervals; testament to his displeasure. Damn b***h; he really hated seers, all deception and creeping power where it couldn't be seen. You didn't know what you were up against until it was too late. Thank all powers they didn't come along too often.
Fawkes waded through a small stream and took petty satisfaction in giving a small stone a very hard kick. b***h. Storm the half-breed seer. He would remember her, oh he would remember her. Red eyes flashed briefly with flame and the phoenix stalked on into the darkness. Woe betide any that crossed him this night.
