The only way it would look bad to the fashion, is if the girl doesn't dress good enough in the sense of "what's good for this body-shape". i.e.: For me, Empire-waisted dresses and princess-cut(?) dresses look best when it comes to dressing my shape. Your friend won't look nice in a Lolita dress if it's JUST fitting, and especially when she's pregnant, some styles won't look good on her.

With commissioning loli-maternity dresses, in that case you'll have those dresses sitting in your closet for the rest of its days because it's EXTREMELY rare that anyone in a lolita community would buy maternity clothing. Unless you plan on getting it altered after having the baby. It would seem like a waste of money.
