You know? I don't know much about the subject except for the cards I see in Magic The Gathering. There are some nasty ones made into artifacts you can use to torture the opponent or to just have fun with them. I have one called: "Wheel of torture" and the flavor text on the card is quite amusing. Check it out:
"I'd like to buy a bowel" rofl

The Virgin of Nuremberg. I always was used to calling it "The Iron Maiden". Either way, all of those contraptions and devices were just too horrible! You would have to be so careful not to get yourself in trouble...
Hypno: I can see that card text being used for an item on Gaia, just as long as it wasn't too gruesome... XP

i have a question:
How do you think people came up with ways of torture? Not just in Europe, but anywhere. What made them come up with the ideas they did?

Well, back then the Church was in power and it taught if you went against God's wishes you would be severely punished. I guess that is how people invented ways of torture: to do God's work for him.

but what made them choose the ways they did?
hurting others because they don't believe in God is not right though, every person has the right to believe what ever they want.

Yes, but back then they couldn't care less if you slightly believed in God: you would still be tortured. Nowadays things are a bit different in a select group of countries/areas.

Of course! I remember hearing about the iron maiden as an actual magic card.
One thing though, I've never thought of new methods of torture for my writing but maybe I should... hmm... neutral
