I'm surprised that no one made a topic on this yet... Thoughts on the video?

It seemed to make sense, almost, it was so full of meaning, and then... and then there was an elk! *cries*

I think it's my favorite video by far. Let me just break it down with how this video made me feel.
So it starts out, with silence and silowhettes jumping into a car. I really don't know what to think, but it looks like it's going to be awesome. Then the music and the car start up at the same time, and I hear this really awesome beat. Off they go, Both the music and the car! It zooms in on 2D, and I'm just hit with this awesomely fluid animation like I've never seen before. At this point I'm totally hooked, since my two passions are animation and music. There's tons of really nice transitions and subtle movements of the characters. Then they take off for the loop and I'm wondering what could possibly be next. Our adorable little Phase One Noodle starts singing, and those clever little Japanese karoke subtitles appear on the bottom. Brilliant touch, in my opinion, it adds yet another layer to this masterpiece. Another thing I love is how when they're flying in mid-air, 2D starts singing the second verse, unphased by everything happening around him. We've also got Murdoc's facial animations, which I find adorable. Then it starts going whacky. We've got UFOs and explosions and a giant elk. Murdoc facial expression goes to "wtf", as does mine. So what's the solution? Blow it up, of course! Murdoc's expressions and body language in this part are brilliant. In wonder what's next? Are they going to actually blow up the elk? No... It sneezes and they get blown up instead. I was not expecting that. The video ends with them all scorched up with an O__O expression on their faces.

It's got a special place in my heart. Pretty much because I had been singing that song to myself for years never knowing what it was, and then I finally saw the music video on TV.

I've said this before, but I had seen their CD in the store when I was a kid and got so excited over it because there were cartoons on the cover, and my mum shot down my hopes by telling me it was just the cover art and they weren't actually cartoons. Then when I saw 19-2000 on TV I forced her to watch it with me, angry that she deprived me from the goodness that is Gorillaz.

It makes you want to take a drive while listening to that song. Actually, now that I think of it... I usually sung it while I was in the car. That was before I saw the video.

I agree; it's their most up-beat song (Dare is the only one that comes close) and has such a fun, summer feel that it's best suited to cars. The freedom and speed that it portrays can only be matched by cars - preferably coupe, but whatever. ^.^

I don't understand how the video is "full of meaning", Ooare. I couldn't comprehend any of it!

There's all kinds of symbolism thrown in that vid, Pixel. You just gotta know how to look for it.

Agh! Do tell! I suck at symbolism... xC

Eh, it's sort of a self-fulfilling profecy. The more you look for it, the more you find.

And, no, I didn't intend to quote ROTO on 23 Skidoo. That just kinda happened on its own...

Well, I thought the church, and choosing to take the path away from it... also the huge church sign, I thought was the cult of capitalism. The UFO I originally thought represented (because it came out of the church area) being dragged back into that world, and how it blew up the gas station representing it's destructiveness.... and then there was an elk. =S

Heh heh. And there were the oil plants. I hate symbolism because you can never know for sure......I must hear it from Damon's mouth. xP I know it's different for everyone, but I just always need a set example.
