The rain from earlier in the day still pattered lightly on the leaves high up in the canopy, only allowing a scant few drops to hit the forest floor. Afternoon had brought darker light, covering the land below in a deep blanket of gray. It was an eerie color - a color that made little Magharibi a little nervous. It almost seemed as if the worst of the rare summer storm hadn't even come yet. Her coat, such a bright rusty color mixed with pure white, was a stark contrast to the undergrowth of the miniature jungle in the Mpinzani lands. It was lucky for her that no real predators had found their way into their secluded area. She'd be a goner in a heartbeat.

Not that the young pup was thinking of such things. In fact, a surprise attack was the furthest thing from her mind. She trotted contentedly along the grassy earth, dodging the heavy raindrops, white tail waving around like a banner. Maggie also appeared to have no recollection that she was actually supposed to be at the family den, sleeping away with the rest of her brothers and sisters. No, she had snuck out like usual. But she didn't regret it. She'd met some strange, nice creature called a lion and had had quite the romp in the rain with him. If anything, she was only thinking about maybe finding a tree hollow to curl up in for a nap of her own.

Just as the thought passed through her mind, her blue eyes spied a tiny opening within a large tree. A very puppy-sized opening she thought, as she walked towards it. She poked her nose inside, pressing it against the dry floor of the hollow. No one had been in here in ages. At least she wouldn't be intruding on someone's home.

Ribbit.

Her ears snapped forward as she heard the familiar, barking call of a tree frog. And he was somewhere inside. Maggie adored tree frogs. So there the young pup stood, damp from rain, her head stuffed in a small hole, and her fluffy tail going a million miles a second. She was obvious one tiny bit at all.

Usually, Kiasi'mtunza was quite the proficient little huntress considering her young age. Her bright eyes could catch the smallest flicker of movement in the back haunches of an animal (or the way an insect's wings prepared for flight, as they case may be) and her paws found the best purchase in any terrain. But whether today was simply a bad day or the rain had made things new and difficult for the young pup, Tunz was simply not having a good go of it as she attempted to track the little tree frog she had been following for well over an hour. It was an impressive attention span, most assuredly, but she had originally set out with the intent of bringing her sister, Magharibi, home to the den before her parents discovered that either of them were missing.

She noticed the dying light with some bit of worry, brows narrowing over teal eyes as she set out once again in search of her sister. The tree frog was given up for loss as she had not seen him for some time now. Perhaps he had grown bored and hurried off home as well? That was a reassuring thought, believing that the prey had turned tail and run rather than herself. It made the pup feel much more adequate as far as hunting skills were concerned. Sticking her nose to the ground, she found it exceedingly difficult to find her sister's scent against the muddy ground and the smells that had all been befuddled by the rain. It may be better to return home to find her parents, truly, but the thought was fleeting and she quickly continued on to find her white and rust-hued sibling.

Then there was that familiar cry that interrupted her thoughts.

Ribbit.

Her head shot up, ears swivelling forward with interest. As long as she was going to be about anyway, she certainly didn't want to turn down the challenge of the frog. Tearing in the direction of the sound with silent, quick steps, she slithered through the undergrowth when she was suddenly met with the sight of a fluffy ivory tail waving not ten feet from her. It took her a moment, but after tilting her nose to the wind she was able to identify the scent as her sister. Crouching low, she hesitated for but a moment before springing to pounce the other wild dog pup with impressive aim. "GOTCHA."

Maggie was so intent upon sniffing out this mystery frog that her usually sharp senses didn't pick up either the smell of her sister, of the sound of her paws. She didn't even realize there was anyone in the general area until she felt a warm body hit her lower half, and a sound that was so distorted by the hollow tree, it sounded like a fierce warrior's battle cry.

A mixture of yelp and squeal came out of Maggie's throat as her eyes widened. Muscles jerking with shock, the pup's head slammed back against the trunk of the tree, causing her to whimper even more. Scrambling backwards, falling all over her paws, Maggie somehow managed to wiggle her way out of the narrow hole and promptly landed on her rump on the wet grass.

Still unsure of her attacker, the rusty pup rolled to her paws clumsily, adrenaline coursing through her veins. Panting and paws splayed, her crystalline eyes slowly focused in on the creature that had caught her by surprise. It looked...so familiar.

"Tunz!" she barked, relief slowly coursing through her, a laugh quick for form on her muzzle. "You scared me!" she said, tail wagging hard behind her. She raised a single ivory paw, batting at her sister's face. "What're you doing out here?"

[oh god, that was so baaaaad. XD I'm so rp rusty right now.]

As her sister came tumbling backwards out of the trunk, Tunz knocked her chin against the other's pup's back before tripping over her own paws in an attempt to avoid any further injury to either of them. Her mouth was sore and she gave a quiet whimper amongst all the confusion - in which for a second she was worried she'd attacked a completely different creature then her missing sister. Her yellow tipped tail tucked between her legs as she crouched and waited, but as soon as she caught sight of her sister fully, she knew there was naught to be afraid of.

Plopping nonchalantly on her rear, her teal eyes settled on her sister with a keen interest, tilting her head to one side as she waited for her to notice who it was that had attacked her. When at last the recognition was made, she gave a happy yip of excitement before plopping forward so that her butt waved in the air gently.

"You shouldn't have your nose in a tree then, silly!" She giggled before answering the inquiry, "I came to find you! You know Mama will be sore with us if we're out after dark, I wanted to make sure you weren't lost."

Maggie joined in on the giggling, patting the soft ground with her paws playfully. It was a rare event, it seemed, for her siblings to wander away from the general den area and out and about the Mpinzani lands. Much less for one of them to follow her into the jungle when they were all supposed to be sleeping.
a
"Of course I wasn't lost," she said cheerfully. Maggie prided herself on her knowledge of the pack lands. She knew great hiding spots and all sorts of interesting places to have adventures at. "I was just bored and felt like exploring." This was an occurrence that seemed to happening more and more with the pretty little pup. She always found herself climbing the walls with boredom, and she'd wanted to do something besides play with her siblings. So far, her sneaky little adventures had yielded only minor results, though her afternoon with the lion cub had been quite entertaining.

She turned her blue eyes to the canopy. Only faint amounts of light were coming through now. It couldn't be any later than afternoon, but the heavy clouds only made it seem much darker. Maggie simply grinned, however. "Mother will never notice we've been gone." It was most likely true, too. With thirteen pups to look after, what mother, even a very good one, wouldn't occasionally misplace one or two? Besides, even if she did notice, they were already in trouble. Why not make the best of it?

Wiggling her rump in the air, Maggie darted a paw out and tapped her sister's shoulder. "Tag!" she laughed, before raising herself, practically dancing on her paws.

Still giggling, especially after her sister joined in, Tunz bright eyes didn't stray from Maggie's form, as if afraid that if she looked away, her sister would disappear. Tunz was, despite her best efforts, hopelessly lost and she knew that if she lost sight of Maggie she would have her work cut out for her getting back to the den site. Regardless of such threatening peril, she wouldn't tell her sibling that she was lost, else be the subject of a joke amongst their litter later on.

So, when Maggie insisted that she was, infact, not lost, Tunz didn't press the matter lest it be turned to her own sense of direction. She knew only a bit of their homelands, what little she saw following her siblings around and trying to keep everyone and everything under wraps. It was important to her that her family remained safe, and that was cause for an occasional traipse after one brother or sister or another. No true adventure had become of it yet, and this was actually the farthest she had ever been on her own. "You're always bored, silly. You could've just woken me up, you know." She understood, however, that Maggie was bored with her siblings. True, having so many brothers and sisters led to plenty of entertainment, but sometimes a pup needed to liven things up a bit.

Tag in the middle of nowhere was definitely a good way to go about it, and it melted Tunz fear of being lost. Playtime often diverted attention away from worrying. Giggling once again, she performed her own play bow, smacking the earth with her paws before making a dart for her sister in an attempt to catch her. "That's cheating!" She didn't even think about how much trouble they would be in! Not when she was 'it'.

Even if Maggie found herself hopelessly lost, she would never admit to herself that she was. She held tightly to the philosophy that if you were lost, all you had to do was wander around a bit until you became familiar with your current location, thus, you weren't lost anymore! While it was a fanciful way of thinking, it worked for the rusty pup, and had lead to her familiarizing herself with quite a bit of the Mpinzani lands.

Sadly, Maggie didn't venture out into the world with her siblings most of the time. She preferred to go out on her own and scope out various ways to play pranks on her brothers and sisters - something she was mildly notorious for. She even had her own stash of fun objects, hidden deep within the forest where nobody else could find them. True, some of her pranks had gotten her into mounds of trouble, but it didn't deter her in the slightest.

Her excitement soared through the roof as Tunz returned her playbow, and she jumped backwards as her sister came at her. "Is not!" she laughed, wagging her tail furiously. She pranced towards the denser vegetation, barking over her shoulder, beckoning her sister after her. "You're just too slow!"

[oi, that was bad. no inspiration at all. ; ;]

Fanciful or not, it was certainly a method that Tunz would not only find endearing, but absolutely correct! But than again, her family was infalible. Nothing they said could be wrong, so long as it could be understood and explained in a way that Tunz could grasp. They could tell her that the sky was not really blue, it was white and clouds were glimpses of the true sky. So long as their reasoning made sense, Tunz would believe every word. Well, as long as she remained a puppy, anyways.

The only time Tunz ever ventured far from their den site, it was because she was following one sibling or another. Sometimes that meant following a parent as well, but usually it was her siblings that wanted to explore. It wasn't that Tunz wasn't brave enough nor didn't want to explore, she simply clung so hard to her family that most things were done in their presence. She was almost never alone, unless she was off searching for someone. And thus, the only trouble she ever got in was the makings of a brother or sister, not her own.

A fit of giggles nearly impaired the little puppy as she went prancing after her sister, steps light and energetic as she made light-hearted attempts to catch her. Her teeth snapped at the air as if she would n** Maggie's heels were she close enough. "Am not!" Laughing, her tail whipped the air rhythmically as she returned the barks with playful whimpers and charged forward, swiping forward with a paw in hopes of catching her off guard.

As Tunz quickly followed after her, Maggie upped her pace to an easy lope. It wasn't too long before she had to raise it to a reckless gallop as her sister nipped at her heels. Laughing, she didn't really pay attention to where she was going. Her bright eyes were, instead, focused on avoiding the jaws and paws directly behind her. So distracted, and so full of giggles, Maggie didn't see what she was headed for. In truth, most wouldn't notice what treacherous ground the pup was heading for, as the undergrowth had woven a weak floor over top of it.

What it was, was a...ditch of sorts, almost as if it had once been a very deep river bed a couple of thousand years ago. It wasn't very wide, and strong, persistent vines had crawled all over the top of it, creating sturdy crossings at some points, and very weak holes at others. Maggie just happened to find a weak one.

With a surprised yelp, the small pup vanished through the vines and leaves and fell a handful of feet to a rather soft ground of old soil and dead leaves. Landing with an 'oomph', Maggie quickly picked herself up out of the heap she'd fallen in and looked back up to the hole she'd created. All she could see was a scant trace of gray sky and lots of the forest's canopy. Still a bit dazed, she turned her gaze to her surroundings. It was rather...dark down here, with only a bit of light peeking through. But a very large feature made little Maggie's jaw drop. Standing just in front of her was the wide, yawning mouth of a very large cave.

There is no way to appropriately explain the terror that swept over Tunz as her sister suddenly disappeared from sight. The pup slid to a halt just on the edge of the little hole, every muscle tense and unmoving as she stared at it for a second in absolute horror. It was like some awful beast that had swept out of the ground and swallowed her sister whole! The idea that Maggie was crumbled and broken at the bottom of it, amid a rubble of bones and carcasses of other beasts the hole had claimed, flashed through her mind and she immediately whimpered as she moved closer. Peering down cautiously, she held her breath to steal herself for whatever view might be waiting for her (or incase the hole decided to swallow her too!).

Luckily for her, the fall had ended cushily, so her sister was still alive, breathing and uninjured at the bottom. Her eyes widened briefly and then rolled as she sighed, finding her freak out to be mildly ridiculous now that everything was okay. Sort of. She was still, you know, at the bottom of a hole. It looked like Tunz could possibly slide down herself, but then who would go for help? Granted, she couldn't leave Maggie here by herself anyway! She whimpered and side stepped as she called down.

"Maggie? Are you okay?" She noticed her sister was staring at something with alert attentiveness and she crouched in an attempt to follow her line of sight. When they found the mouth of the cave, she quickly realised what Maggie was probably just itching to do, "No! Maggie, don't even think about it! There might be monsters or snakes or more holes! With no bottoms!"

Recovering from the shock of her discovery, Maggie's blue eyes immediately began to mischievously sparkle and her tail to wag over her head. Maggie loved caves. She been trying to explore every single little cave she could possibly find in the cliff faces. Of course, she hadn't ventured very far into the deeper ones. While she was a rather brave pup, sometimes that bravery slowly disappeared when there was no light.

Standing right beneath the hole, Maggie tilted her head backwards to look up at her sister, grinning broadly at her. "Oh, come on! It can't be that bad," she laughed, trotting towards the wide mouth. Just as she came beneath the upper ledge, she turned and barked back to Tunz. "And besides, if the holes don't have bottoms, it means we just fall and never have to hit anything." Nevermind the fact that they would starve to death while falling, or die of dehydration. Maggie always looked on the bright side like that.

Peering into the darkness of the caves, Maggie turned, taking small, slow steps further and further into it.
