It was a rather warm day under the hot August sun, but then again Gaia did have rather normal seasons, perhaps to make up for the oddities of the rest of the world. Marshall was one of the rarities of Gaia: A perfectly normal human. He could not summon mythical creatures, he couldn't turn into an animal, and he did not have a drop of "demon", "vampire" or even "vampyre" in his veins.

Though, as he drove back to his house, a small blue thing strapped into the car-seat next to him, he couldn't help but feel...Well, that maybe he was extraordinary. I'm a father! I'm a real father!

Marshall had been looking into adoptions for a short period of time before some strange company got a hold of him. They called themselves Therianthro Laboratories, though in all honesty Marshall could care less about the name. They pulled him through what felt like an endless array of odd tests and interviews, before finally deciding that Marshall was indeed a fit parent.

So, here he was, driving home with a small blue child. The child was barely a foot high, and in fact the small ball on his tail was just about as large as he was. They had told them that he was fusion of human DNA and the DNA of an Azurill, and he would eventually become a Marill as well. Though, Marshall didn't care what his son was.

"Daddy? Where are we going?" Kale asked, watching the trees whizz by with great facination. Marshall's face brightened as he was called 'daddy', turning to his Son and chuckling, "Well, we're going home."

"Home?" Kale asked curiously, looking up at his (in his eyes only, mind you) astoundingly tall father, who just let out another chuckle in response.

"Well...Home is where you and I live. Its the place you can always go back to, no matter where you are."

"Ohh...I like that!" Kale said cheerfully.

Soon, the large green trees became much larger Palm trees, the dirt under the black road slowly becoming bright, almost white sand. A large, tacky billboard said "Welcome to Port of Gambino!" greeted the two of them as they continued driving, passing through a brightly painted town before greeted with a very nice looking brown house almost directly on the beach.

"Is...Is this home?!" Kale asked, astounded by how obscenely large his new house was.

"Heh heh...Yep Kale. This is home."

The usually semi-clean coffee table was...positively educational. Flash cards of different colors, coloring books for the ABCs, 123s, etc. were scattered, and pieces of binder paper with numbers one through ten repeated over again.

"..." Marshall sat there, nervous for some inexplicable reason as he watched his son staring at the piece of paper intensely. They had been working for hours now, building up to this moment: Where Kale would spell his first few words.

Marshall decided to make it as simple as possible: I like cats. Simple for you and me but Kale had just started writing letters, so words were difficult. And a whole sentence?! What was I thinking?! Full sentence?! Already?! ARGH! I'm a terrible teacher, a terrible human being, and a terrible father! I should quit! Leave Kale to a better father who doesn't expect him to write full sentences at such a young age! Marshall thought, his head falling to the coffee table.

"Daddy? Am I done?" Kale asked, tugging on Marshall's shirt. Marshall slowly looked up, happy to see that...Kale's handwriting was atrocious. No, no, that wasn't it! Kale had properly written "I LIKE CATS"!!! Marshall hugged the poor boy happily.

"Daddy, can we go to the beach now?"

"Sure! Any thing you want!" Marshall said, proudly putting his son's achievement on the refrigerator.
