User Image Radi'Utengo lay at the base of a lone tree. The land was barren for miles of vegetation taller than up to his knees. Parts of the grass were greener than others. They were newer and Radi could almost mark their birth, way back after the fire, the fire that had caused his mother to die and a baby Radi to refuse to leave her side. The fire, which had left him here, all alone without his herd. Here, the prime males would have stood, in the center of the breeding grounds. Here the females would have gladly come to mate with them. Here, they came no more. But here, he forever waited. The grass around his feet was trimmed almost to the ground from being walked on ...and occasionally eaten.

He looked up into the tree in annoyance. A monkey holding on to a branch by a limb and a tail, jabbered away at him. Darn monkey. If he had toes and not hooves, he'd be quick to chase it away. Instead, he kicked it, causing it to shake. It was his home and no darn monkeys were going to take it ...or make him leave it. One day, they'd return ...and so he'd wait for them.

((sorry for the long intro xD;; ))

His family had made it out of the fire, but they had lost each other trying to get out of it. Kitchi, only being a young baby buffalo had grown up his whole life trying to find the bits of his family that had scattered in all different directions. One day... just one day he would find them and they would be a family again, but until then he would search. It had been too long since he had visited the area that had burnt to nothing when he was only a baby. His yellow fur almost seemed to blend in with the yellow grass that surrounded him.

Kitchi raised his white muzzle into the air so he could sniff around for his family members. "Hm..." Someone was there, but it didn't smell like the smell of his mother... or what he could remember of his mother. Maybe he was completely wrong and it was his mother... or maybe it would be his father? Either way the water buffalo was going to check whoever it was out.

Radi had no time for smells. He had an annoying cling-on in his tree. He leapt to his feet and banged against the tree with both hind-legs. It made a groan and there was a crack followed by a thud. A branch had broken in the skirmish but it was effective. The monkey jumped to the ground and ran away with a screech.

"That's right!" he called. "And don't come back!" No darn monkey was going to live on waterbuck lands, even if he happened to be its sole protector. He paced in a circle to wear off the extra adrenaline and laid back down. But now he noticed. And the smell wasn't all that foreign...

((what a funny cawinky-dink that their beginnings are the same (both revolve around a fire) ;D ))

Kitchi blinked at the sight of the branch of a tree falling down. He slowly strolled over towards the other water buffalo, and watched him calling to a monkey. "Monkeys one of the most annoying things on the face of this planet." He said aloud, but not to anyone particular.

Kitchi puffed up a bit to make himself look tough so that the other would possibly tremble in his presence. The yellow water buffalo loved being tougher then others, even though he wasn't even close. The yellow buffalo's own shadow scared him at times, but he didn't let anyone know about that.

((yeah, I couldn't think of anything else when I first got him. I guess his parents could've gotten attacked by lions, but then he wouldn't want to go near lions, which wouldn't be fun. xD))

Radi swiveled his head to face the newcomer, ready to be mad at the new intruder. His mommy would have said he was being too overprotective. But, other than her being dead..... it was a waterbuck. Gods, he hadn't seen one in ages. As a matter of fact if he had never been to a waterhole and seen his own reflection, he might have forgotten what they looked like by now. He barely managed to conceal a grin but couldn't hide the glimmer of hope in his eyes. They had come back? Finally? He looked around the other waterbuck, expecting to see more of them. That was immediately shot down. This was a lone, rogue waterbuck like himself.

Radi stood up beside the other, not really affected by the other's bulk. Being larger than a lion (as most waterbucks were anyways) made him rather unafraid of anything ...if not overly confident. "Yes," he agreed civilly with a nod of his head. "Very." He had been working for the past three days to make that monkey go away. It had been chased up there by a hyena -who knows why a hyena wanted a monkey anyway- which Radi then had to chase away. Not very fun. It takes too much energy especially when they double back on you.

"Welcome," he added for the lack of much else to say.

((yay for similarities though ^^ ))
