Aza laughed aloud at his antics and mock-grumpiness. That was another thing the new generation would need to learn - 'traditional' didn't necessarily mean old and boring. There was certainly plenty of fire in this lioness, especially after weeks of rest! She was more than ready to attack life again.
As Chomo set off at a jog, the huntress followed, strides lengthening easily into a smooth lope, challenging, "This arthritic old maid can run faster than you any day, grandpa!"
And with that, she was off.

Chomo smirked toothily and called out "Watch you don't pull a muscle, you old codger!" before cackling and picking up his own pace, he had no chance of overtaking her, only just getting used to the sand again. However, he didn't fall far behind, already well versed in the way you moved on the slippery surface.
Some lions would come to the desert and die because they couldn't sprint, the sand just sapped away all their muscle effort. Only the firekin truly knew how to use their big paws for proper traction. It was just remembering the knack that was the focus of Chomos attention as he ran, that and the figure just ahead of him.
His doubts about his youth flitted away into nothingness as he just ran for the sake of running, still feeling the same as always.

Aza's running was slowed down substantially by hysterical laughter, fed by joking and joy both. She'd spent too long idle, and too long apart from lions her own age, with her own views - the only lesson Chomo needed teaching was respect for her 'old age'!
She kicked up sand behind her as she ran atop the dunes of her home, feeling the return of a cublike playfulness in force for the first time since she'd been a child. It had never left, only fallen into drowsy neglect, and now it was making up for lost time.
No...she wasn't old at all. She'd never be old!

Chomo hadn't properly run in a long time, the loping strides reminding him of under-exercised muscles he hadn't used in too long, not that he cared, he was having too much fun to. He scrabbled up the dunes behind Aza, as he did, silently cursing his heavy mane and build for holding him back. He'd beat her in a race once he'd been here a while!
Misjudging a leap from one dune to the next he went into a tumble, falling with a thump on the soft sand and feeling like a total idiot.
"You win, FOR NOW." he panted, tail still swishing amusedly where he lay on the sand, paws all over the place as he tried to get to his feet again. He didn't get to stand up again though, just gave up attempting for a moment as he cracked up laughing at how rediculous he must have looked.
"Haha! I need more practice!"

When instead of the soft fall of Chomo's feet, she heard the soft fall of Chomo, Aza slid to stop in the sands and turned 'round to see just what mess he'd gotten himself into. Seeing him laid right out with paws every which way, she joined him in his laughter, practically howling as she came down the dune to where his tumble had ended.
"And you were worried I was going to pull a muscle?" she teased, sitting unceremoniously in the sand beside him. She too was panting a little, unused to such sprints after her long rest while she healed up.
