Couldn't help it; without this being posted then my kitsus Setsumi and Ronan would never have closure in their identity. ^__^
The air was heavy and humid from the recent downpour, leaving everyone and everything within the jungle crested with water droplets. Oblivious to this moisture was a lone egg, resting in a long abandoned nest at the base of an aged tree. The being of the pale shell was already dealing with it's own change; it was no longer small enough to remain in it's round home. The nest molded to the movements of the egg as wiggle after wiggle, a crack was formed at the top. There was hesitant silence, before a white toed paw chipped away at the shell. With a little more persistance than intended, the egg shattered under the kit's weight and she was left rolling forward and splatting on the wet nest. Immediately, she meeped and cried for food and warmth, young instincts telling her these were of the utmost importance. With eyes shield shut, the best the young baby could do was curl in on herself and continue her tiny, pathetic cries. Minutes turned to hours before she finally hushed her attempts, fatigued both in throat and spirits. It was her first day in the world, and she soon came to realize that she was alone in it.
Days turned into months, and in this time a clan of kitsusagi were treading down a scarcely visited beach surrounded by desert. It was a small group full of bright adults, their colors mingling and blending in the protective ways that were similiar to a zebra's pelt. Pouncing among the feet of these kitsus, was a youth named Ronan. He was the only success in the clan's efforts to bring about the next generation, but his arrival was enough to hope for more. The youth was just as bright as the adults, his fur striped with rays of blue. The same blue showed in his energetic eyes as he weaved his way under the belly's of the adults till he made his way near the front. Curious but eager, he peered out at the golden land they had to cross. This was his first time to even see a desert, but already he could feel the strong heat of the place. Ohh, nice and toasty! Tails wagged as he glanced up, and recieving a nod from his elders, they continued their march.
Time had not passed smoothly for the young girl, but she was lucky to have seen it at all. The purple kitsu crested with feathers prowled along the jungle floor as she searched for a meal. Meager servings of bugs and flowers had been enough for her to survive this long. Not the best of flavors, but she was still much too small to find something better, and she had learned to not be picky. Ahh, there it was! Maw lifting to a grin, the kitsu pounced a bright pink object, licking at the soft petals. This flower had a sweet scent and lovely nectar that could fill her for hours. It was a rare find, and she was slow to eat, savoring the taste. Once done, she hefted herslef up a young tree near the edge of the jungle. She had learned that this was the safest place to hide out, and this tree gave a fascinating view of the strange land beyond her home. Curiousity had once made her tread out in the sands, but the heat and open vulnerability had made her dart right back to the thick trees. Still, what was out there beyond the low grass and dirt?
Geez, he had enjoyed the warmth, but this was alittle extreme. Already his paws were lagging, but forced to keep moving at the burning sands desire. Ronan had discovered the tactic of hiding in the shade of the adults, among not eating for many days and taking in even the slightest of details for survival. Having no other kits around to play with, he had to grow up fast, already learning the the body language and diction of adults. A gust of hot air and sand slapped him in the face, and after shaking his head of the sting, he noticed the adults peering alertly in the distance. Hunching down, he too glanced in the same direction. A cloud of sand? How bad could that be to make the adults fidget? He couldn't tell what hit him first, the sound or the feel, maybe even both at once. His eyes were forced closed, and following the examples of the others, he curled tightly to himself and braced.
