Okay, then! The general consensus seems to be that my opinion is in the vast minority. That's what I get for being old. xd

I loooooved Utopia, although Human Nature runs pretty concurrently with what I would consider my favourite episode of series three. (The Shakespeare Code gets a mention just because of all the JK Rowling references- I LOLed at my desk at work... People looked at me funny. Good times.) So, let's see, why did I like Utopia? Well, first of all, I'm an ardent Derek Jacobi fancier, so seeing him in a Who episode was much like- well, it's hard to describe, but I did spend much of the episode unable to blink as I took in his quiet and brilliant performance. And- wow!- the scene between Captain Jack and the Doctor while Jack worked his magic with the mechanical, radioactive doohickeys (how's that for techno speak!) was simply fantastic. (We all know Jack is in love with the Doctor. *snicker*) Ummm...what? >_>'

Human Nature was brilliant for several reasons, not the least of which was getting to see exactly what makes the Doctor the Doctor and why it is he could never do what needs to be done if he were remotely human. And getting to see Martha literally thrown into the Deep End with only her wits and a few (sorely lacking) guidelines supplied by the Doctor to help her was absolutely brilliant. The idea may not have been wholly original, but it was still very emotionally resonant for me- it went seemlessly into The Family of Blood which set up a rather startling contrast to the Doctor at the series end. (No spoilers for this, sorry.)

As for Martha, well, I still maintain that she was brilliant, especially coming in as the Rebound Companion. I think it's the most wonderful thing in the world that she's going to be on Torchwood and then is coming in to Series Three about mid-way through. Squee!

Heh...I was going to go somewhere else with this, but then I realised that I've already written about, oh, say, a War and Peace-length post, so I should probably stop while I'm ahead. redface
